Input on JAVA programming for a newbie

Question

I just started my first year of computer science in college and they said we will be using JAVA and object oriented programming. I have little to no programming experience and was wondering how hard will it be to pick it up? I do learn computer things pretty quick but I'm going in blind here and want to know other people's experience.

THanks ;)

It?s a piece of cake. You will actually need to do that work, but if you do then you shouldn't have a problem. You will find it much easier if you actually have an interest in the subject and not just an "I'm doing this only because I have to" attitude to it all.

Yeah, no kidding. I'm taking a CS class right now with Java and 90% of the people in there are saying, "I'm in here because I have to be..." and I'm thinking, "Then this isn't the right place for you to be."

Programming isn't easy, but if you want to learn, it will be a lot easier than learning because you have to.

Here's my experience:

1 -- You either get it or you don't. Simple as that, if you get it, then you'll probably get an A+ but if you don't you'll struggle to come out with a pass.

2 -- Engineers always school comp sci students :p Probably because we learn assembly and c along with boolean algebra and digital logic right away.
