Deryck
I remember one website comparing the two (Apple OS X and microsoft Windows XP). At first, even though it was very close, Apple won it because of the required activation in Microsoft Windows XP but then it was a tie since of the license restrictions. Martog
Ah yes...the stupid OS wars... Well I will use pratically any OS given to me and I find I like OSX and WinXP a LOT and will use either one, Windows if I am on a PC and I rather use OSX if I am on a Mac. I rather get a Sun Blade 100 and pop that special PCI card in that is basically a PC mobo and run Windows in full accleration as it is running on a dedication x86 CPU/RAM/video/sound/NIC/etc and a virtual disk on the main Sun hard drive...now that is cool :)

Jessterw
Why do people insist on comparing Apple OS and Microsoft Windows? To begin with they are very different OS's, and were designed for different markets/types of people. Not to sound cliche, but it really is comparing apples to err.... potatoes :ermm: My opinion is that they both are good operating systems, far better (as far as usability and completeness, no so much in terms of technical superiority) than any other OS on the market (although I love my FreeBSD! :D ). There are things about Apple OS (I've used all of them except X, and it looks damn nice) and there are things I hate, same goes for Windows. I use Windows XP Professional, why? Simply because it has the tools I want to use available for it, and because I am a sucker for cheap hardware :p . If I could get a Mac for what I can get a Windows system for I would probably buy one, as my main applications are available for it (Microsoft Office, Macromedia , Adobe Photoshop). As far as bringing this topic up, we all know it's bound to result in some flames, but that's only because people are too stubborn or ignorant to concede any "points" to the other side. I guess the phrase "to each his own" definately applies to operating systems, more now than ever.

Martog
Actually, there is a perfectly sound solution to all of this. Each OS has its ups/downs, advantages/disadavantages, software/lack of software, features/lack of features, etc. It is up to the end user to pick which one best suits their needs and which one works best for them. There is no need to argue over this for one reason: Really in the end it is a matter of personal opinion. Each person picks their chosen OS for his or her own reasons and such. I primarlly use Windows, namely Windows XP Professional. It runs basically all the applications I generally need/want to use, and with XP it is fast and such. But that is MY opinion. If I had to use a Mac, I will, no biggie, great apps out there for Mac OS. Same way with Linux and UNIX which I also will use and do use. It is just my personal perferance that I decide to use Windows in the end and not another OS. People get too overheated about this type of thing and it should honestly just be dropped. An OS poll is fine to see which one in the community is used most, but no need to flame people just because they use Windows, Mac OS, Linux, etc because one does not like the other OS's or think they "suck". Can we all just get along with this sort of thing? There is no answer to which is best, and it should be left like that and just up to the user to pick which one is used in the end. Martog
Thanks. I am just tired of all the OS slaming and such. Just no need for it. I get enough from it from someone on IRC who just uses Linux and basically condones anything, even the BSD's which surprise me as FreeBSD,NetBSD, and OpenBSD are free. Just gets too old too fast. Miran
WickedKitten, I hate floppy drives, but a lot of institutions (such as my university) are still stuck on floppies - they are slowly moving towards Zip but if I didn't have a floppy drive, I'd be screwed as far as using the computers at school.
