Its taking longer then I thought but my computer is nearly ready for the install.

Ive had to repartition, and make rescue disks and such. Im getting ready to distroy my XP partition, and I have saved all my media and such worth saving onto a seperate safe partition.

Im going to keep a copy of Windows 98se. as a backup OS, and a spring board to install all of my other OS's.

Im going to install the following OS's

PCDOS 2000

Lindows

Cairo (NT 5)

Neptune (2000 se)

I think its about time that someone do a screenshot based walk through of the process of installing these OS's and testing them out.

Im going to document the whole process.

Does anyone know how to take screenshots when in dos, or during and installation?

"Cairo" - Windows 98 beta (or 95, not sure now...), any1 remember "The Road to Cairo?"

Neptune - Win2k successor that only existed as Alpha, I tried it a looooooong time ago - it had a nice Welcome screen and some things fixed, but that's about it

Yeah I second the above guys notion I thought Cairo was 95 or 98 but yeah I didnt think it was NT5. I just didnt have any evidence I still dont, but this guy backs me up.

All I know is 9x were marked Memphis Chicargo and Cairo and im thinking Cairo must be 95, well youve only got three choices

95, 98, 98SE

I just cleared off a partition over the night that im going to split into two partitions to make way for my reinstallations.

Does anyone here think that I will need boot magic for this?

I don't want to totaly **** over my boot. And that has happend with conflicting installations,

The OS's Should be installed tonight. and some early screen shots by late tonight.

You can't install more than one version of Windows 9X.

Ahh, a smart chap, there's no reason to go through all this partitioning, formatting, etc, since the only goal is to get screen shots, virtual pc will do fine.

I'm not sure why anyone would want screen shots etc, but if someone did one of the best ways to install an os and take screen shots would be virtual pc.

Uhm, Neptune is old ****, most of it has gone into Whistler. Cairo was mainly Windows 2000 with that object oriented filesystem and no GUI goodies.

So why screenshots?!

I'll enlighten all of you:

Chicago = Windows 95

Cairo = Windows NT5 = Windows 2000

Memphis = Windows 98

Neptune = Windows NT 5.1 that never made it.

Whistler = Windows XP.

Longhorn = after Windows XP.

Blackcomb = after Longhorn.

So only Neptune was dumped. Cairo is "alive" and named Windows 2000.

I have a version of Whistler that dates from October 2000 :o

It was the first edition to include a very buggy version of the Watercolour theme

No, Neptune was not a ME SE... Microsoft decided to dump Neptune for Whistler.

XP was code named Whistler.

How do you expect to even post more then one screen shot per installation, and thats IF you can save a screen to a clipboard before an OS is installed.
