glix81
Hey I have a MS Intillimouse Explorer Optical Wireless. And from time to time, my mouse 'freezes' on the screen. I can get it to work again by clicking a button on it. however this is extreamly annoying, does anyone know what is causing this or/and how I can fix this problem? Martog
How far away is your mouse from the reciever? Is there anything in the path? Reciever or mouse near something that can cause interference? Installed the Intillipoint software? Windows version? Just some questions to ask to get the bigger picture of your enviroment.
glix81
My mouse reciever is within two feet of the mouse. There is nothing blocking it. It is directly infront of my monitor. Im using windows xp. I keep fresh batteries always onhand. Im not using crapy batteries.
DanM602
Hi glix81, I have one of these mouses also and it does this because the Microsoft has a feature that is built into the mouse to save battery power so you aren't replacing them every week and its more towards 3 weeks +. Think of it this way when your mouse freezes on the screen it is in stand by mode and when you move it again it wakes up. Personally I enjoy this feature unless I am playing an online game that needs fast action response. Dan Re: I have a MS Intillimouse Explorer Optical Wireless. Martog
I forgot about the feature as I do not have that mouse yet, but that makes perfect sense =)
glix81
Im not sure if thats it, it just stops even when im using it, and I change the batteries about every 2weeks ( a lil less sometimes). It even freezes when im using it. The whole reason I got an optical mouse was to not have Jams like i did in my regualar mouse.
Martog
Want to know something? I am on my third Intellimouse Explorer (first revision) because my first two died, thankfully MS replaced both of them, and even one with a retail boxed one. The first one froze on the screen during use, sounds like the same thing happened to you. My second one just died, would not work, tried more than one computer. DanM602
yea thats it becaues mine does that to and i have contacted MS about this b4 and thats what they told me also. Its also on the box. The Intellimouse Explorer that isnt wireless doesnt do that but the wireless one does and I know it does it when your using it but I bet you stop moving it b4 it does that even for a few slight seconds. glix81
Is this a known problem with the MS Intillmouse explorer wireless. Are these freezes covered by ms? What did you have to do to get it replaced. I love my wireless mouse but these freezes are driving me insane. something i have noticed though, when i apply presure to the mouse not on the buttons but just on the casing, it seems to wake it up as well..... Martog
All I did was call them up, I think the technical support. Though I said I have the explorer mouse regular, NOT the wireless. Mine has a cord, hehe. If you press down on teh wireless mouse explorer it will "wake up" from its "sleep" sort to say.
glix81
well, I don't think that its really going to sleep. If it is, then it goes to sleep all the time, I personaly don't like a mouse that goes to sleep durring use, if i can turn this feature off I would ! Martog
It shouldn't be going to sleep during normal use so something is up, could be a malfunctioning mouse. I still have my other two intellimice, MS never wanted them back :o
glix81
wow, So you called tech support and they sent you a mouse. Im assuming that you had the original box at least. I did see a P/N on the mouse. Hmm I wonder if that will help me when I call them.
Martog
I was surprised when I could keep the mice and I did have the box still, but did not need it. You will need that P/N on the bottom of the mouse as that is what they want.
glix81
Well, im going to call them with a complaint about this product. You never know maybe my juice as a neowin writer will have some pull. lol not likely. Anyways, this is maddening
Martog
LOL, you never know, it might work ;) Yeah, I was pretty ****ed when the second one just died, won't even light up. My third one has taking a pretty good beating, it has scratches on it from wear, tear, and abuse, and still works perfect, had it for a long time now. glix81
I wish that logitec made an alternative to the wireless explorer. However i find their mice too small for my hands. Anything smaller then an explorer isn't comfortable
Martog
I know what you mean. I have gotten so used to the explorer, it is hard to go back to the regular mice. The only other mouse I am used to is the pointer stick on my laptop.
