how do I use an iso file?

Recommended Posts

You don't use it as such, but rather can either extract the contents of it or burn them direct to a CD (the latter is an ISO's intended purpose).

Software like Nero and CDRWin can burn the ISO image onto CD for you, providing an exact copy of the original. There is a program called ISOBuster that can be used to extract the contents onto your HD, I am sure a quick search would turn up the link.

Lots of ways, do you have a cd writer and some cdr's or cdrw ?

If you do you can burn them to a disk using many cd writing applications.

If you don't you can use Daemon tools to mount the image, or extract the files from the iso using winimage.

Ok. If the file has an extension such as .iso, and you want it on a CD (since it is a CD image file) then you simply burn it using Fireburner, Nero, or Easy CD Creator.

There is a second option. If you want, you can extract the files out of the CD image file using any of several programs that include ISO Buster, WinISO, and WinImage.

There is a third option. If you want, you can use a CD Drive simulation software called Daemon Tools to mount the CD image file and make the computer think it is an actual CD in a separate CD drive.

If you do not have a CD-RW drive, you can obviously only do the second or third option.

do I extraxt the files and then burn or use nero or something to do it?

No, if you wish to burn it burn it using Nero or one of the apps mentioned above as an .iso

The only reason you would want to extract the files is if you wish to install from the iso file and can't (or don't wish to) burn it

If your using Nero and want to burn it, go to file -> burn image, then just choose the file, no need to extract it if you don't want to.

Choose disk at once if your burner gets an error with TAO (track at once)
