+unabatedshagie Subscriber¹ Posted January 5, 2005 Subscriber¹ Share Posted January 5, 2005 Well I saw a website with Javascript menus and they worked fine in every browser, but Opera.Opera can do many things other browsers can't though. And I'm not talking about non-browser-related features. 585202384[/snapback] Usually this is because the website is either a) not sending opera the javascript b) using an old javascript script Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/221417-definitive-best-browser-engine/page/10/#findComment-585237938 Share on other sites

Chouzan
Although I did not vote for Internet Explorer, I do know it uses the Trident (Tasman for the Macintosh port) layout engine. paulbeattie87
there can only be one winner of this Firefox, although when i use linux some sites using the KHTML render at fast speeds i am talking about 1second on first run. xxdesmus
this thread is ridiculous. How can someone possibly pick a browser engine that doesn't display things correctly based on the standards? I don't care if Opera is "faster", (which it isn't) if it doesn't display things the way they should be based on the standards then it's a terrible engine. Also, it's important to mention, duh IE will start faster...the damn thing is built into the explorer interface, obviously it's going to open faster. In your first post you make this confusing, the thread topic is "browser engine" but then you go and ask what the "best browser" is in your first post. Damn it, make up your mind. Netscape is onto the right idea with it's support of both the gecko engine and the IE engine based on the users preferences. This isn't a solution because the IE engine is still flawed and based too much on ActiveX, but it's a temporary solution until MS (just for example) starts making standards compliant pages. groberts
I love my Maxthon frontend for IE. It may not be as fast, but it renders every page the way they were created. I ran into problems with other browsers. Opera has bugs that cause certain things to not display properly. Firefox has bugs that cause certain things to not display properly. This has nothing to do with not supporting standards. lookitzatree
Firefox is the best. Its considered the most secure by many groups and supports W3C standards. Firefox has about 6 known security flaws, while IE has 19+. Firefox also has a very simple interface which is great for most people. I dont know of any big drawbacks other than lack of ActiveX support (disputed insecurity), and support of some proprietary microsoft standards that are also possible insecure like dhtml. easternBrain
did any one check out on Avant Browser???? It is the best because: Top 10 reasons to use Avant Browser: 1)Flash Animation Filter: More than 85% of all flash animation on web pages is advertising. These flash files are pretty large, and normally take up to 90% of the size of the page you're visiting. With Avant Browser you can save this bandwidth by blocking the download of these flash files with just one easy click. Avant Browser also provides options to block downloads of pictures, videos, sounds and ActiveX components. With these options users can control their bandwidth and speed up page loading. 2)Built-in Pop-up Stopper: Easily eliminate unwanted pop-up pages automatically with just one click. 3)Additional Mouse Functions: If you click a link in the web page with the middle mouse button, the link will be opened in a new window in the background. And there are two handy mouse gestures in Avant Browser. The first allows you to navigate backward one step by holding the right button down and then clicking on the left button simultaneously. The second allows you to navigate forward one step by reversing the buttons used: hold left, and click right. 4)Multi-Window Browsing: Browse multiple web pages simultaneously. All opened pages can be easily stopped, refreshed, closed or arranged with one click. 5)Real Full Screen Mode and Alternative Full Desktop mode: When you enable Full Screen Mode, all you see is the webspace, with no toolbars or other clutter. They are simply autohidden! Move your mouse over the top or bottom and find the toolbar and tab bar respectively. Avant Browser also provides Full Desktop Mode, which is the same as Full screen mode, but differs in that your windows task bar stays visible. 6)Built-in Yahoo/Google Search Engine: Avant Browser provides a built-in search engines, Yahoo and Google. Built-in search engines enable user to search for web pages, images, groups, directories, news, lyrics and software in Internet. International users will be glad to know that you can set avant to utilize any of up to 64 google mirrors by default! 7)Full IE Compatibility: Avant Browser comes with all Internet Explorer functions, including Cookies, ActiveX Controls, Java Script, Real player and Macromedia Flash. IE bookmarks are automatically imported into Avant Browser. 8)Records Cleaner: With Avant Browser, you can easily keep your privacy by deleting Typed Addresses, Auto-Complete Passwords, Cookies, History of Visited Web Sites, Temporary Internet Files and Search Keywords. 9)Safe Recovery: If Avant Browser is closed improperly, all open web pages are saved and will be automatically reopened at next startup. 10)Skins: Express your creativity by making a skin for Avant using a custom, easy to use program called Avant Browser Skin Factory, or use any of the many and varied skins made by other users. The reason it is fastest is because it not only blocks ads but also banner adds and inline graphical ads. Install it and try opening your Yahoo inbox.... u'll no the difference.
