Denis W. Veteran Posted July 20, 2005 Veteran Share Posted July 20, 2005 Presto (used in Opera): Smaller, faster. Firefox is not a browser engine... 586241496[/snapback] True, but those that mention Opera and IE as 'engines' are just as guilty as well. The poll should've read: Trident (IE) Presto (Opera) Gecko (Mozilla) KHTML Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/221417-definitive-best-browser-engine/page/16/#findComment-586243298 Share on other sites

Opera, no. Opera is the only browser that uses it's engine. Now if the person says "Opera because of mouse gestures!", then they are indeed an idiot. True, Opera's the only browser that uses Presto, but we're voting on engines, not browsers. RebelFX
Gecko. I've been using Firefox since Mozilla decided to change the browser's name to FF, so a year and a half. I'm still using IE at work tho. :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/221417-definitive-best-browser-engine/page/16/#findComment-586278685 Share on other sites

Quillz
I'd really like to say Gecko, but until the majority of the web follows web standards, I'm going to have to stick with the Trident (IE) engine. Axel
Used firefox for about a year and I've tired of it, the interface feels so plasticy for some reason. Right now I'm using Internet Explorer 7, and I'm liking it so far. I reckon the best browser is actually Opera. This is the engine we're polling and not the browser itself. seta-san
currently really anything but IE. Not because it doesn't have tabbed browsing(i never use it), not because it's integrated in the UI thus a security threat(a feature i still love), not because i'm using linux (because windows harddrive melted) but just because it's so damned far from the standards. Every browser should at the very least strive to pass the Acid tests, not because it's the be all test out there, but because it stands as a fair to decent ruler to see which browser camp actually cares to update their browsers in meaningful ways. Tabbed browser this, disable plugins that, every camp shouts out the greatness of their extra features, but what about BASIC FUNCTIONALITY? No one seems to care so long as they can mess around with what ever ******ized version of the standards their working with to tweak their pages to look right.
