Don't use Netbeans... use Eclipse, it is so much better, and easier to use for the beginner. It even helps you correct your errors, and has a brilliant looking interface. I've tried both... and Eclipse comes out on top.

Get here (http://eclipse-mirror.jab.fi/site/eclipse/downloads/drops/N-N20040928-200409280010/download.php?dropFile=eclipse-SDK-N20040928-win32.zip), and unpack it wherever you want.

If you are using .NET try VS.NET 2005, for Java, I think NetBeans will work for you, also consider JBuilder X althought it's not free...

Yes it is. Get the foundation version.

I hate it though, it's written in Java itself and it's very sluggish. My biggest complaint is that when you Alt-Tab, it catches the Alt and activates the menu bar so when you switch back and start typing you end up selecting and activating menus.

VS .NET & C# all the way.

Ohh NetBeans. Gives me a headache just thinking about that thing again.

Why?? :o

I have found it to be very useful, specially to carry around in a flash memory, but I am taking a look into Eclipse since it seems very easy to use :D

My experence: constant crashes, lockups and functions that don't do what they are meant to. AKA a bad piece of software.

I hated it, it's too confusing for the beginner user, and it's not even a pleasant IDE to dev in, Eclipse is by far the best for Java deving.
