Internet Connection Sharing

Recommended Posts

OK Then! I was wondering if anyone can help me with ICS.

My desktop XP PC has two network cards in (1 & 2) 1 is connected to my cable modem and 2 is connected to my XP laptop's docking station with a cross over cable. I ran the Home Network wizard on my desktop PC and selected that this PC connects to the internet and other connect to the internet by passing through it, i then chose network 1 as the internet connection and network 2 as the connection that will be used as the pass through, it then went off and done it's thing, and i rebooted, i then went to run the wizard on my laptop, but, because it's my company laptop and it belongs to a domain, the wizard won't run, what do i need to do to my laptop to get it to connect to my dektop and get internet access?

Thanks

Ben

ok: here we go - so simple its scary.

www.deerfield.com

download wingate.

install on computer connected to web.

install on the other computers you want to access the web.

le voila -btw- it uses NAT - network address translation - so virtually everything works without proxys....

Really, there is no need mate. If both the computers are running XP (which they are), it works fine.

I cannot change computer 2 to WORKGROUP because it belongs to a domain

Very simple to configure, free, and readily available to download

Just do a search for ANALOG X

Once you have the file downloaded, read the "readme" attached. Providing you have 2 nics in the HOST PC, you have bought a Crossover cable, you should be golden. ONe drawback the HOST MACHINE MUST BE ON 24/7 if you want to use the client!

No, it's my company laptop that I use everyday, but I have broadband internet at home, and would like for my laptop to be able to use it

Ben :)

If you don't want to use the network to exchange files but you want to use your broadband you can just change the ip address of the gateway in the network properties of your laptop to the one you use for your your internet connection. No need to modify anything else.
