forget it man,the today's linux is designed by 20000 sites, how could just a single person do a very good OS?

anyway, linux is other category, thus it's very less technologically advanced than windows and mac

it''s very stable, because of it's simple code, but it is quite hard finding an overall compatibility

stability doesen't means that is good

What is wrong with most of you here? By saying OS, he doesn't necessarily mean anything nearly as advanced as Windows, OSX or Linux, etc. A program could be a pretty basic system that does a few things, and still be called an , definitively, an OS. Like someone here said he wrote an OS once in 40 lines.

Well I would suggest that OS: Design and Implementation book someone recommended on the first page. I don't have any specific recommendation as I have never attempted to write an OS.

Why do you guys keep saying that making a OS is that hard? It all depends on what you're making the OS for ;)

If you're making one for PC, yes it will take you a LONG time. But lets just say you're making one for your TI 83+ calculator.. that's probably a lot easier then making one for PCs... (don't get me wrong, I can't code a single line :D)

Agreed, an OS can be as easy as 40 lines as mentioned before. sheesh! relax ppl

good luck to ya keep it simple or you will become suicidal.

Yeah no kidding.

I guess there IS a point to having OS design courses in college you can take. Imagine that! :p

exactly what I was saying toxic.

people just start to think of longhorn or a high-end competing OS."

It's just a question that he wanted to have a simple answer for. Not a "dont do it" response.
