randomnut
Hi, a mates son has just tirned 17 and is going to be taking driving lessons. He has a car lined up an old vauxhall nova and has asked me to help find a cheap car insurer for a new driver. Cheapest quote Ive seen is ?1071. Anyone know of any other cheap places? Garry
That's bloody cheap as it is. Who's that with? I'm 20, live in a good area, had license for over a year. Never had a crash, never been in trouble with the law and mine is ?1400 on a 52 reg Fiesta 1.3l With that said, I find Tesco to be the cheapest by quite a way. There's also CIH insurance (not to be confused with CIS) if you can find a number or a website or something.
Jamiemeister
http://www.confused.com/ Fill in one form, and they submit it to loads of insurance web site for you. Then in about 20 minutes or so they email you with the results.

Max Veteran Posted October 10, 2004 Veteran Share Posted October 10, 2004 Isn't he allowed to be insured under his mums/dads no claims bonus? What about TPFT?
BGM
insurance is going to be absolutely stupid if ur under 21 anyway.. if that quote is fuly comp then id take it, if however its tpft then go look at directline, norwich union idrect, and tesco.. they seem to be the lowest of the low the best thing that he could do is get insured under his parents until he is 21, and then get his ow ninsurance.. he will end up paying less in hte long run (provided there is no accident) and his parents will likely be able to get protected no claims :) good luck! I think i pay ?580 fully comp, under my dad on a rover 200 and im 20 (probably wrong though) oh good tip: call them up, dont do it online.. u can barter with them that way
Shibby
try CIS, i think it liek CO OP or something like that. It's probley best for you to insure the car under a any driver, or add him as a named driver. this probley be best for a year or two. At the moment for my smart car group 2(i think) my mum insures it at ?600 and thats any driver, and i can drive it at age 16, taht bloody good, but if my mum and dad was to insure it just for them, it would be less then ?200 nearly. ctomer
I'm 29 and pay around 500. You might want to try MoreThan, they seem to want to attract new customers by offering competitive rates, but aren't too bothered about keeping their existing ones. 1400? Ouch!!!! Kriz
Norwich Union is pretty cheap i think. ?1071 is pretty cheap though, my mates insurance on a 106 was like ?2200.
randomnut
Hmmm cant seem to find that quote now, wish id saved it. Now the cheapest I can find is around ?1300 from norwich union but they want it in 3 installments instead of over 12 months which would hit him too hard in the pocket id imagine:((
JMann Veteran Posted October 10, 2004 Veteran Share Posted October 10, 2004 Iv'e heard dodgy rumours about Tesco Insurance, if you are with Tesco read your Terms and Conditions because I was told, that if you crash into another Tesco insurance holder you arent covered? If someone could check this? This is what I heard, but I maybe wrong. But check it. JMann
BGM
erm i dont think so, cos i belvie that would be illigal.. if ur with tesco, and u hit another tesco person i think it would just come back to kick u in the ass doubly at renewal time.. they have to make their money up somewhere but yes your right, i have heard funny things about tesco and claims.. id rather pay a bit extra imo :)

SMH
I passed my test around 7 weeks ago, i'm 17 n' jus got myself a M reg 1.2 Renault Clio. Best quote i got was with Churchill, they quoted me ?1221 fully comp with pass plus. It knocked over ?800 with the pass plus discount so it's worth doin!
