nail
my thought is based on the rumors of microsoft soon charging for MSN Messenger and Hotmail. since windows xp insists on you having to have a passport and msn explorer, messenger etc, i think since every buys the os that comes with these tools or whatever u want to call them i think i should be free with the huge price you have to pay for winxp, where i come form its about $800 (nzl), even office xp which costs $1500, cant that come with a free passport i can do just about everything in windows 98 (which costs over half the price of xp) that i can do in windows xp. im finding my point hard to explain so i hope you understand where im coming from
shafi
How much you pay for your computer ? $800 or $1500 is way too much. You can't tell microsoft to reduce the price of software, pointless. Not everyone pays software for that price. You can buy lots of stuff for that price. I don't know your currency. 1$ us = x ZL ?

KiwiNZ
Nail your "normal persons" weekly income is a wee bit off , the before tax is a about $650 per week for average income here in paradise. Thank god I am waaaaaaay over the average. But I agree our prices are high . And I here the MS are no longer going to allow upgrades from Win 95 / 98 . New code will need to be purchased. PC prices ,well the machine I did this on a P3 1ghz , 256mb ram ,40gb HD , 65mb Geforce GTS2 , 17" Philips CRT and DVD rom was $2900 just on 12 months ago . Osiris
See thats an intresting topic you raise and its an example of the issues that transnational companies will have to deal with at some stage, because it cant very well be considered equaitable or even good for business charging a country for servicees like hotmail and passports when they pay so much for their software, But in the grand scheme of things MS isnt making any more money for it, say you pay $1500 for office, in the end that gets converted back to US dollars to pay MS for it originally which means there getting the same amount of money as an american would pay anyway. But its a good point you raised, but they cant very well have half the world getting passports for free and the other half paying for the stuff.
