Separation of School & State and What About the Poor?

Recommended Posts

JimF mate why are obsessed with school and the governemnt and why did you start a new thread for it, you only brought this up because of the school issue that was raised in the evolution vs creation thread you started.

Liking having several contraversial threads going at the same time do you?

Personally I dont see a need to seperate the schoolsa from the government, public education is great, well in Australia yeah even we have issues with it but it gets the marks and people walk out with what they need too. If you seperate the schools what next, seperate welfare and the government?

I would suggest that you read the Palestinian thread if you want to understand why the separation of church and education is a good idea.

I would also suggest that it is the obligation of every government to insure that each of it's citizens has an opportunity to receive an education.

I would further suggest that it is the obligation of every citizen to demand that the education be as unbiased as possible.

I feel that my public education was fairly unbiased. Of course there were aspects of it that weren't, but fortunately I had some good teachers who taught me to question things. To go out and seek my own answers.

This whole idea of private schooling and home schooling while fine for some, leaves others out cold. Should my neighbors children be educated with my tax dollars?

Of course they should . . . don't be silly.

I am a member of a society and as such the greater good is as important as the good of the individual. It is to my benefit to have my neighbor's children be educated lest they become a drain on the system.

TimeRider: Have you read those links ? If your neighbours kids need education and he can't afford it then you give him the money directly instead of giving it to the govermant which tends to squander most of it. That's the whole point of charitable giving. This is the only way to insure that everybody gets a good education.

I want the poor to go to better schools than today. Free market schooling can make this happen. It will deliver better education at less than half the cost of government schools.

The top two-thirds of the families will be able to afford tuitions after the $300-billion tax cut (after we abolish public schools) , but the poorest third will need financial help. We'll need to raise an additional $20-billion each year for groups like the Children's Scholarship Fund.

Americans now give $175-billion to charities each year. With the huge tax cut, we can prudently predict $20-billion in new scholarships. (For more information, please see Education: What About the Poor?.)
