From the form they have shown in the qualifiers, I'd say Argentina would be odds on favourites at the moment. However, you can't rule out Brazil - even if they're in shocking form.

Personally, I would want to see ITALY win, but as aco mentioned Argentina is considered the favourite...

oh well ..

I'd like to see Italy win aswell, just don't think they can do it this year. :ermm:

What I'd really really like to see is Australia in the next World Cup - they deserve it.

although how much i like the England squad, it is far fetched that they would win. Their defense is horrible really. France is playing great as of later and so is Argentina. I say Argentina and France have the best chances.

I have a new respect to the argentinian team..

I mean they always used to be one of the top 10 teams..

but now they really could be #1

france has an excellent team.. but i don't want them to win...

sort of bitter from last world cup .. :-(

Be realistic people. England probably won't get out of the group stage - and if they do they will get beaten in the second round. I hope I'm wrong - but let's be sensible.

After the Germany match, the ITV teletext 488 poll asked if we would win the world cup. 55% of people said yes. They asked again after the Beckham injury. 42% of people said yes. This is why England do so badly! Because people expect so much. The truth is, England don't do badly. They do as well as their talent allows considering how shaken up the team always is. This is because the manager changes every two years, mainly because of the high expectations and the media pressure. The other reason for failure is lack of players playing abroad - particularly defenders. I think this is way the England defense is so bad - Rio Ferdinand is an OK if error prone defender. Sol Campbell is very good. But when they play international teams, they can't adjust to the different pace and style. Playing together more, even if not against other teams in full international friendlies would help the team cohesion too.

If England could get a good manager, like SGE, for a few years, get a few more players other than Macca (ie. good players) playing abroad and get the tabloids to lighten up a bit and maybe England could fluke the odd semi final.

My guess is France, although Italy are a good bet (thus blowing my lack of players abroad theory). Brazil and Argentina are possibilities too as always.

I guess there aren't many poeple who enjoy football around here, anyhow since this thread gather us all

around my area, we never usually pick brazil as a favourite, mainly cause it's Brazil; one of the greatest soccer dynasties of all time!

is it similar for some of you guys/gals?

Xain

good points....
