superbeast
Are you happy with the new direction the Neowin forums have taken? To me, it seems less computer oriented and more social bias. Please take the poll and leave a positive opinion.
superbeast
Well the poll didnt show up. Just write yes or no...
TDQuiksilver
Seems a lot more strict to me... Which is really lame considering forums are for discussion about everything (in the General Discussion anyways).. thats why there are sections of the forums.. so if you want tech, visit the other sections. Guest whybkuul
That'd be a big NO. I think too much philosophy has been brought to the boards. This site is based around computers, not religion/theories/etc. If people want to talk about god, there are boards for it, go use those. If people want to talk about evolution, go to a board dedicated to it. These boards are mainly for modifying computers
TDQuiksilver
However.. I am glad that the mods take immediate action against some of the trouble makers on the boards..
=NickJ=
I'm glad there's some philosophy going through the boards, Neowin is a community after all, i just wish Charlie Brown and JimF would give it a rest.
Gator
i really dont care for all the religious and "life" threads in general discussion. its taking "general" a little too far.

But this has ended the fundies have landed !!! i give this site in short order before we have a religous forum and more topics with religous overtones

Arpit
*sigh*...hardware stores used to be one of those 'guy's hangout' place...talking about everything they won't normally talk about anywhere else...now looks like neowin is the next generation 'hangout' place... Few examples: -gossips like guy buying 67 DIMMS of 256 MB RAM for $95.00 -receding hairlines -justin timberlake dumping brittany (honestly, i had no ideas there were guys that cared) ...and all the rest including all the techy talk. i've got to admit that i haven't seen as much of it as i used to (last year). whether it's a good thing or not, who cares...;)

TimeRider
I have to say that I do appreciate the formidible task that the Moderators have before them. I don't believe in censorship, I think the General Discussion forum should be an open forum. In the same breath I am not an anarchist, the bounds of decorum and good taste must be maintained. In forums such as these it is important to remember first and foremost that it IS just a forum after all. Treating others AND their opinions with respect is essential. I followed the threads that seem to be the source of controversy here. While I agree that two people in particular got carried away, there was plenty of frustration evident on both sides of the issue, including some of the people who have posted in this thread. We are not going to solve the world's problems here. My mother-in-law is one of those people who will spend an hour telling you about her beliefs. She will be articulate and gentle in her approach . . . However, she is totally incapable of listening to someone else talk about their beliefs, unless they concur with hers. I consider her a fanatic. I feel bad because I see so many people here genralizing about Christians. Not all Christians are fanatics. We aren't all deluded. We aren't all trying to shove our belief system down anyone's throat. I can also assure you that those type of people are not representitive of all Christians. For most of the Christians I know, we have just chosen to live our life by the Word. It works for us. I will gladly tell anyone about my faith and if they don't share it . . . That's OK with me. We are not all of a piece. I appreciated many of the posts that were put into the Evolution threads. It seemed like there were a lot of really intelligent people who knew their material well. I read a good deal of it and learned more about evolution than I knew when I started. I did not find the theories presented to be in conflict with my beliefs . . . in fact I thought they enhanced them and gave me a greater appreciation for what I believe is God's work. Let me be clear . . . what I believe . . . I don't expect anyone to share my belief and if they want to see evolution as pure science completely removed from faith . . . I respect that. Years ago . . . many years I might add . . . I had an English Professor who chewed us out en masse for failing to avail ourselves of the opportunity to get to know the exchange students. He told us that it was our best opportunity to see the world through different eyes. Some days later I was watching a young African man try to insert a dollar into a vending machine. He was having some difficulty and rather than going about my business I helped him. I introduced myself and had lunch with him. Over the coming weeks and months he and I spent many hours together sharing our cultures and learning how each other came to be where we were at that point in time. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Since that time the Internet has come along. And now I have the opportunity to share with a Global community, my culture and beliefs, and learn of theirs. I would encourage everyone here to try, try, try and try again, not to feel anger first. But rather to try and just listen . . . even if your views are to the contrary to the post. It is possible to disagree and still show respect for others. When someone is offensive . . . take the road less traveled and respond with respect and courtesy. Don't feed into the anger, it just isn't worth it. A great American once said: "We all share the same planet; we all breathe the same air; we all cherish our children's futures; and we are all mortal." Reach first for tolerance. Cheif_Bigfoot
They post that stuff, I ignore it. Thats my solution. It would be kinda nice not to have as much of it as there is. I like this site and hope it doesn't change to much.
neowin_hipster
I'm happy that the mods have started to clean things up. For example, they closed those stupid ****ing evolution threads. The general forum used to be a place where you could talk about the new movies, sports, general chatter and other nerd friendly topics like star wars. Lately it has become rather silly and absurd. I would like to remind people to keep posts interresting and quality while avoiding "how many times a day do you brush your teeth". The only problem with neowin is the spam in the general forum. jmoisan
I appreciate the fact that there is far less flaming on the boards than 2 or 3 months ago... and I still think that Neowin is one hell of a great place to be on the Web ! :)
Jessterw
Hmm... looks like I may be in the minority here, but I like the fact that Neowin is more than just a tech site, as far as the forums go. I mean we all obviously are in to tech related news and information, and that's what links us together as a community. However is that all we are interested in? I mean what's wrong with a bunch of "techies" or whatever getting together and talking about other things? I think it adds depth to the community and probably gives some a bond to others, in that they may have something in common besides being a geek or whatever. I do agree the amount of threads with no point have gotten somewhat out of control (however the mods have done a great job controlling them once they appear or get to far gone), although I don't think that non-tech related threads are a problem. Maybe the General category has been pushed to the limits, so why not add a Philosophy or like category somewhere. This would enable those of us who like to participate in these type of threads with other geeks and techies and whoever else, while those who have a problem with them could just stay clear of the category. As far as the direction Neowin has taken... I don't think its direction has really changed any. The site and community has simply grown, and as such there are more opinions floating around. In fact this is why I love Neowin, because there is such a diverse group of people here and there seems to be (ignoring the minority) a good amount of understanding and cooperation between among them. To all the mods and staff, keep up the good work!

twist
the forum is a place for expressing ideas, sooner or later someone will say something soneone doesn't want to see. yes there have been a lot of really stupid threads lately. amd vs. intel evolution sig sizes etc. but everyojne does have a right to an opinion, i think the general disscussion form should be for just that. if it doesn't break the rules, fine. a little heat never hurt anyone. i think if its original (use the search button), doesn't break the rules and stays in line any thread can be good. regardless if its about what lawn mower you use or weather the color of a baboons butt makes you hard. people just need to learn to stay out of things that get them heated and discuss things with a level head (myself included)
