MSN Today Modification

Question

Hi there.

I am not really sure if I am posting in the correct place, but it seemed the most appropriate place. Mods feel free to move it, or remove it if you feel it is breach of any legal ground, which I don't believe it to be.

Ok, basically I want to play a prank on one of my flatmates using the MSN today window that pops up when you start messenger.

I want the window to point at somewhere else. Rather than have it display the page generated by MSN, I want it to display a page created by me held on a network share. Obviously we are on the same network in our flat.

I know it must be a webpage, I just don't know if I can change the actual address.

Does anyone have any idea how I can change this?? I have access to her PC, so I can easily change any registry variables etc if required.

Thanks.

Dougal.

Host file?

I was waiting for one of those Xero_cool!! :)

The reason I want to do it is that she has booked some tickets for the REM concert in Glasgow next June. me and one of my other flatmates keep winding her up that it has been cancelled. So we figured the best way to make her really think it had been would be to have it come up on her msn today. :p

Exactly what i was going to say, Find the domain its on, for example, msntoday.msn.com, and forward it to localhost.

But on the other hand, You might need a webserver running, Im not sure if you could do something like file://C:\webprank.html or something like that..

The host file is located in 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc' and called 'hosts'

Haha, i will do!

Getting a web server up and running is no bother, could just host apache on my fileserver, I use it for testing stuff anyways.

Could always just redirect it to a page on my webserver.

Just did a google on the host file, and know what you mean now. It was teh suspected cause of all the MSN Messenger hassles last few weeks.

Cheers guys.
