Kyoto Accord

We need to reduce our dependence on oil if for nothing else, but to get our butts out of the middle east. It sure sounds good to say that Bin-Laden supporters hate us because we are rich and don't follow their religion, but the truth is that they hate us because we have troops in the middle east. If we wouldn't have been over there, they never would have bombed the WTC and the Pentagon. How do you think we would feel if the arabs came over here and stationed troops here? We would probably have some citizens go over there and bomb some of their buildings. And then there are the many other reasons to reduce using it, just put your nose right up to an exhaust pipe sometime, I'm sure you'll just love oil then. It wouldn't be hard for us at all to switch to much cleaner forms of fuel. My suggestion is to put a huge tax on SUV's and other gas-guzzling vehicles. There is no reason that you need an SUV to drive to work in. The only reason to have an SUV is if you have five kids or you do serious off-roading, but most SUV's aren't even built for off-roading anymore. Well that's enough ranting for today. Thank God for the democrats and their blocking of the drilling in Alaska thing, what a stupid idea that was.

Ok, if this what I am about say upsets you, or you are not an American citizen and take offense to what I am about to post, I apologize now.

You may not want to read the rest of this post

It's a dog eat dog world. Survival of the fittest. Right now, we Americans are the fittest. Yes, we consume 1/4 of the worlds oil. Yes we consume the resources of the international community before we consume our own. Because we can! We station our troops almost anywhere we want, because we can! When the Arabs oil is gone, we will buy the Russians! Whats money? Something we ascribe value to? What a joke...natural resources are the true value! And we take, take, take...because no one has the smarts or the strength to stop us.

Complain all you want. I do not morally or ethically justify what we do. I say these things because they are truth. When we are the only ones left with the resources to innovate, who will listen to the international complaints?

It's what all great empires have done from the beginning of time. It's what we Americans do best.

So complain now. Stop us now. If you can.

Little off topic

Why is this stupid. Because of the harm to the animals. Because you believe everything that the dems and enviromentalist tell you. Or because it would hurt the local people. Because the first is not being fully reported, only what they want you to here. If the second reason, you dont know how wrong that is. I live in Alaska and travel up there alot. The vast majority are for it. Plus why is ANWR so important. Because it is the "last great outdoor area". Over half of Alaska is federal lands. No other state is close in the amount of lands locked up by the feds. If you want to protect and preserve lands I am for that. We need to have lands for future generations but lets look at the lower 48 ok. Outsiders need to stop trying to lockup this state to make them feel like they are preserving something. Plus who is going to see it. a small handfull of tourist and people looking at the "preserved" lands in pictures. /end rant

dont mean to single you out on that one petsounds. I am just tired of hearing agruements from people you dont live here.

/edit

Also other countries allow us to station troops there by agreements. If they dont like it they should protest to their govt about it.

I am against the drilling in Alaska because I don't see what good it would do. The best estimates I have seen say that it would at best give us a few more years of oil. We need to pump our money into alternative fuels that will last for much longer, instead of pumping it into Bush's buddies pockets.

We have a few of those wind farms here in South Dakota. Farmers put them out in their pastures, wind is certainly something that we don't have a shortage of around here. I think it's a great idea.

I agree money needs to be set aside for alt sources of fuel. There is more then a few years of oil. Also just to the west of what is currently being drilled is the National Peterolum Preserve (i believe dont remember exact name) which is being explored and a few test drills are being opened in the next few months. This does not require congressional approve to open.

There are several ways to minimize the impact into ANWR. Congress will not listen to the oil industry ( note BP is the major player in Alaska oil) about how they would like to get better estimates on the amount of oil instead of ANWR. This would only take a few (3 to 5) drills setup on the very edge of ANWR, where there is no concern for animals. Democrats fear this would open the door a little for the oil industry. I think it would be in the interest of everybody to try to find out just how much oil is in ANWR. Also the report of how much oil can be misleading. Most accounts that people state are the oil the companies bring up now. There is alot of oil that the companies dont bring up for several reasons.

Oh, where do I start. Greece - invented modern Philosophy. France - Gave an awful lot of art to the world. UK - Invented one hell of a lot, computers, penecilin, jet engines, the US (whose constitution was ripped from the works of the british philosopher John Locke). Italy - that whole Rome thing etc etc etc
