mart3ll
I love how we get booed when they are the ones dropping bombs on us... Hey the whole country isn't at fault, but it seems theres an awful lot of ignorance down south when it comes to knowing who your friends are (especially when in an F-16). We help them out after their disaster, and they bomb us and boo us. Yes, it was accidental, but booing our national anthem a week after it happened? Bravo folks. bravo. :right:

OnlyMe
The bombing was accidental...I know that doesn't help anything, but because of that the government should offer some kind of compensation as well as take steps to ensure that this kind of thing happens less. The whole of the US (at least everyone that I have talked to) mourns about the tragic loss of those lives. The booing is unacceptable, and done in ignorance and/or a false sense of appropriate patriotism. (I partly blame the education system and the press for that one.) wtmcgee
that's a total bonehead move by the NY fans... but don't go acting like the people on this message board are accountable for the actions of those idiots. that's a real classless move to boo another country's national anthem, no matter the country, but especially an ally like canada (and especially after what happened last week....) I agree.. Americans need to show as much respect as they currently get from its allies. This is a bad move on their part. Mutual respect is not what we are seeing in this case. h71y6
Well, in that basketball game, the Detroit players and media themselves said that the booing was tasteless and inappropriate. I guess some fans just are more ignorant than others.
twist
americans, as a country (i don't mean everyone in america so don't bother getting all upset) , are very ignorant to anything that doesn't pertain to them. they really know very little about what happens outside their borders unless they happen to watch cnn (even then its rarely non-american news), its due imho to the school and media in america and the way they drive patriotism and the fact america is number 1 into a childs head from an early age. if you ask almost anyone in any other industrialized country in the world something about america they will most likely have some basic idea. ask the americans something about another country, well hehe. zivan56
Yea some fans are very ignorant, I guess they dont see the value of an anthem, or have repect for other countries anthems.
Aragorn
Those people who booed the Canadian anthem are probably the same people abusing or killing Middle Eastern distent people, even though they are innocent. In any case, they have lowered themselves to that leave anyhow.
LuZZo
This has been going on for a few years people don't just wake up know because it's the "in" thing to do.. Last year and the year before there was a smattering of boos by Toronto fans in the Devils/Leafs series.. and when they went back to Jersey they returned the favor... Right after the idiot Piston's fans booed "O Canada" the Vancouver fans booed the American National Anthem in game 3 versus the Wings..and even some yelled when they were having a moment of silence for the four Canadian soldiers...There are classless morons who don't think for themselves or use common sense in every country on the planet. I agree with Don Cherry (there's a first) these people booing either anthem in either country are the scum of the earth. It's right up there with killing someone else because they call an invisible man in the sky a different name than you do...

I'm going to have to agree here... not based on the nation as a whole for I work with Americans every day who show no signs of ignorance, but I would like to point out that there are American Senators and politicians who pride themselves on never stepping foot off American soil. It's scarry to see some of the people running the most powerful nation in the world have no sense of what the rest of it is really like. That's my 2 cents... (In Canadian funds... 1 cent American.) Ok, notice I mentioned that it was a mistake? I understand it was and I feel sorry for the pilot and what he must be going through. I think there may have been issues there beyond the pilot and his judgement, and thats why theres an inquiry into the event. A designated training ground recognized by the U.S. shouldn't get bombed, especially when the pilot radios his superiors.... and if tracer fire can be seen on the ground doesnt that mean its NOT headed towards the plane? Headed towards the plane it would not look like a line of bullets because it would be coming head on at you. Another reason why the inquiry has to check all this out. But thank you for diminishing our involvement in your war. Once again proving that many Americans are ungrateful of the help they get.

Yes I realize the idiot Piston's fans started this round of mental retardation on both sides of the border... don't throw a fit :) That's a nice way to get back at a group of people for being moronic.. be even more moronic. As I said in my previous post this booing of the anthems goes back a long way, but no one really payed attention to it because it was pre September 11th. twist
but it also has to do with not just the one person that bombed the soldiers but also the way the american government / military deals with it. its not a question of one person, its reflects on the country. why are the americans in afganistan if one person flew a plane into a building? simple, its has nothing to do with that one person.
