im with Internode on a 1.5/256 with 8gig a month plan for 200 a month, its pretty pricey but they dont count uploads so its not too bad for the speed im getting.

You aussies read whirlpool.net.au?  Best source of information for broadband news.

Internode are by far the best ISP providing home DSL service, and they are based in Adelaide.

Never had an outage or a single problem so far.

ick. i can get that for like $75 in the US :p

took a lil while as telstra fukked up 3 times at the exchange, but the company is great and were really willing to help out and that :) im getting a rebate for those 2 weeks i was offline and got free 56k access as well.

its 100 bucks for 3g(peak) and 7(off peak), so atotal of 10gig!

its not much compaired to what i had in singapore 50sing for 1.5/128 unlimited, oh well

this is better than capped 56k, and i cant get optus here so :)

i've seen my isp having a special on new users for dsl thats "$16.95 for the first 6 months for new users on dsl", thats a good deal, but then again the offer expires soon lol

Fear not, Optus has announced residential ADSL! :D

When the ACCC regulates line sharing (As you would know Telstra owns all the lines now), Optus will be able to use the lines for a cheaper price and offer a residential ADSL service. :)

yeah, but that is going to take ages to get through to the avarage home :

Only today I was talking to my friend who wanted ADSL (cant get optus or telstra cable in her area), I said, wait a few months, just hope that Optus will get through

i am currently in the final stages of brianwashing my mum into making my dad get it :D

Good stuff. :)

Tell them; there are no dial-up costs (work on 2 connections a day - 20c x 2 connections/day x 30 days in a month = $12), frees up a phoneline - phoneline rental = $18 (approx) and the speed and convenience is worth the extra money. :D

Exactly, aco.

Get an Optus, that's the best broadband that is available in Australia, I wish they expand to more states, luckily I am in eastern state.

Tel$tra latest broadband advertisement really doesn't make sense, it's like the internet is animated, not real....they are trying to fool people who don't know nothing about computer internet.

But for tech geek like us.....ha ha ha ha you cannot fool us.

first things first...

aaron: who's the chick in your sig?

ok...now for the next important thing...

why do you not get cable? it has almost the same speed, less problems with connecting and all that (mine got connected in 1.5 weeks -- still slow, I guess, but acceptable), less line problems, almost same limitations, a little less cost, etc.

And from what I've tried of Telstra ADSL (when fixing a friend's internet connection), compared to Bigpond Cable (shared between three computers on my LAN), ADSL speed is pretty lousy. This might have something to do with location, but I think in comparison, cable is a much better option.

That is why I am at a loss as to why the heck ADSL is such a preferred choice for so many people. Australia's ADSL service is sub-quality, but Cable doesn't seem to have so many problems (of course it has its own share, but quite less than ADSL).

Its not like there is really a big speed increase for ADSL. Bigpond cable is supposedly uncapped speeds now, and as I said, from my experience, ADSL speeds were darn slow!

I really don't think he can get cable in his area. :ermm:
