How do directly editable an image on photoshop?


Question

I've tried everything: I have searched the net looked through the help, and I can find anywere how to make the image directly editable. Every time I try and do anything to the image this come up:

So how do you do it?

It could be anything. It would help greatly if there was a picture of what you are working on, i.e. a whole screen grab.

What are you trying to apply the gradient fill on for example?

You could see what mode the image is in, i.e. is it indexed, RGB etc.

Make sure you're not trying to apply the gradient to a hidden or locked layer as well.

Like I said, give us a bit of info and it should be easily solved :) .

yep, just right click the shape layer and select "rasterize layer".

If you want to then keep your gradient fill within that shape, hold ctrl and click the shape layer. This will select it allowing you to fill within that shape.
