Longhorn Video!!!

Recommended Posts

for all you know this could be that 3d interface..that's why it move so smooth..each window could be it's own 3d object.

it doesn't look all that imposible.

even if it's 2d interface i see anything special about smooth moving window animation, after all ms is spending alot of money of interface development.

MS were supposedly trying to incorporate DirectX 9 into the windows desktop. If they used DX then those window effects wouldnt be a problem at all, and the speed would be dependant on the graphics card you have.

I really do like the new effects and i can see where creating a duplicate of a window may come in handy too, ive needed a feature like that for a while.

This GUI should run fine on any highish spec PC (1GHz, GeForce2 GTS) computer with no problems.

Im unsure about the side panel tho, im still not sure if i could get used to that. Would also be cool tho if they incorporated the Messenger contacts list into a panel where the Messenger advert is in the bottom left.

Hmm... looks real enough and goes along with alot of the stuff Microsoft has been doing. Not sure about the closing all windows by dragging on to the Recycle Bin... seems kinda counter-intuitive, especially to newer users.

Hrmm I really dont think the video is real and if it is I find that feature nothing more useful then eyecandy really. I would be very dissapointed if MS went for Quality of the next version over its eye candy.

Then again people do want to see a futuristic OS so maybe thats the way to get there with all these lil eye candy add ons.

I think that MS will put lots of eye candy into Longhorn because it appeals to newer users. According to the Longhorn Design Study at << spam >>, which can be found here, Longhorn will not appeal to power users as much as it would to novice users, which means that Longhorn will probably be full of eye candy, which will degrade performance significantly.

As far as the video goes, it seems more and more like it is a mock up, not necessarily an all-out fake, but some of the things in the video look suspicious.

The video has been updated at << spam >>.

it is now 56 seconds long and shows some "new" features of the new WMP (drag and drop, but its only an ehnaced drag and drop, this feature has been around for a while), as well as some of the *unreadable* desktop context menus.

the longer video now makes the video a bit more believable, but i believe it is still fake.

Observations from the extended video:

There is a notification area that tells you how many unread e-mail messages you have, among other things, that is located below the task shelf.

The items on the desktop context menu appears to be as follows:

Add icon...

Task Shelf >

**Don't Know**

Change Theme >

Change Picture >

----------------------

All Settings...

More Observations:

The windows are able to be selected (when they are being dragged to the Recycle Bin) from any part of it, not just from the taskbar.

When IE is started, it prompts you for the Internet address instead of going ahead and opening up your home page.

Looks a bit more convincing, but more proof must be presented before I believe it is 100% real.

One more observation:

My Music was drug from the "My Places" area to the WMP window, and the contents of the folder appeared.

This and others may have already been mentioned in some form or fashion.
