The screenshots may be fake, but the layout and design have their roots in reality. The simple fact is that Microsoft's UI teams are constantly messing around with the UI's of their respective programs, and as such there are alot of UI "sketches" or prototypes. Just look at the various UI incarnations of Windows XP before it was finalized.

Of course I haven't said anything that we all don't already know... hmm... but hey I've increased my post count...

:) :D :p :ermm: :paranoid: :ponder:

Edit: In case you guys didn't notice, while it is on dork.com, it's also under y_notm's sub-folder (or am I just pointing out the obvious here... :s ).

I can't remember any dramatic GUI stuff for XP, all I remember was a gradual progression from 2k style to XP style (watercolor) then the jump to luna.

Yeah watercolor was sweet, thank god we've got people like Binary though to port it.

/Off topic - I noticed you've moved "Laterz, space guy out" to your sig. That's much better :) ;)

Hopefully not - those are ugly shots. The colours are nice, however there is alot of wasted desktop and tons of clutter.

thanks for the shots though y_notm . . .

obviously fake, without even looking at them. why?

simple. blackcomb is going to be a kernel upgrade and is dependant on longhorn's interface to move forward. since they're concentrating on the kernel and the longhorn interface may not yet be completed, there's no way they could start even a preliminary shell to interface to a non-existant kernel.

at least this would make an intersting desktopx theme :D

Well.. I believe MS changed to Luna because watercolor looked too much like the old windows of yesteryear.

Alongside Luna (which should have been changed a bit), Various other things evolved such as the icons.

Microsoft saw "aqua" and wanted to make something similar w/o it being aqua.. They made good high res icons and this improved the GUI a tad. You must realize what Microsoft was thinking about..

"Aqua has big buttons and a "fruity" look to it"... "We must make something to compete.. and thus Luna was born. I can still remember an image that was posted that compared the GUI of XP (Luna) to OSX.. And there are a lot of simlilarities.

that would be nice if i could get my desktop 2 look like that, also i wish microsoft would get ideas from us and make their interfaces look like our dreams like in those pictures

Maybe if MS is not influenced by outside sources, Longhorn will have a decent interface.

EDIT: outside sources = adobe, apple, macromedia, etc.
