[HowTo] Unmount stubborn devices.

Recommended Posts

I've come across a really good guide on how to unmount a CDROM drive when it is being stubborn with annoying "Device is busy" messages. First reaction I use to have was to add a -f option to the umount command to force a dismount. This can lead to some OS instability or at minimal software instability depending on what is using the mount point to access the device.

This guide is targetted at CDROMs that won't dismount, but I've found the techniques in it seem to work with just about any type of mount point. I learned a lot of commands I didn't know about in Linux as well that are really useful!

Enjoy!
