axis
Have the NHL playoffs kicked ass or is it just me? Wicked hits, even some fights are in this year. Some cheap hits from Tucker on Peca in the Toronto/NY series but other then that the rest were ok. Anyways, the canadians must be happy this year. First off the Canadiens actually made the playoffs, wow, and then they beat Boston. But three of the four teams in the east are canadian teams. That's a 75% chance of geeting embarassed in the finals by Detroit when they roll around. I think San Jose will beat a beaten up Colorado team and Detroit will beat St. Louis in 6, then maybe another 6-7 games with Detroit beating San Jose in the confrence finals. As for the east, Ottawa should beat Toronto and Carolina over Montreal with Ottawa finally making the finals. Sadly, whoever Detroit plays in the finals, they will sweep them. mercuryx013
Great game 7 last night between Toronto and NY. Being in Detroit, we are a huge hockey town, but I'm not so sure the wings have what it will take to win again. Our players are getting a little older and we tend to peak during the regular season as opposed to a team like Colorado that turns it up a notch in the playoffs. Just my humble opinion. But I am hoping that the Wings will bring the cup home.

I'll let you guys pick. And Ottawa won't beat Toronto. Not just because I'm from Toronto, but beacuse out of the 10 playoff meetings we've had with them, we're 8-2, and we swept them last year. Oh and Carolina is hack, they were in the worst division of all time, they got 89 points to win a division, give me a break. They won't score on Theodore. TimeRider
Hockey doesn't have a playoffs . . . it has a mini-season at the end of the regular season. 30 teams . . . 16 make the playoffs? Give me a break! So a team works it's ass off all year . . . wins the Division . . . and then has to contend with teams that finished 8th? Sorry guys, that's pretty lame. It almost looks like the league is just bilking the public by calling the last quarter of it's season the playoffs, thus sellouts are virtually guaranteed. I mean really . . . It should be the top 3 teams only, and the Conference winner gets a bye in the first round. Now that would be a playoff. JMHO -TR

JMHO -TR i have to disagree. hockey playoffs are by far the best part of any sport hands down. i agree 16 teams might be a little much, but then you have factor in that it's the playoffs. it's the most coveted trophy in professional sports. it does things to people. 8 seeds beat 1 seeds. it makes for exciting stuff. i think they do a great job, and no other sport glues me to the tv like playoff hockey. axis
TimeRider, that was the stupidest thing ever said about hockey. College bowl games are ridiculous, half of the 114 teams will be in bowl games next year. Every sport is like that, division leaders get the top spots. Look who is bitching now, NJ is at home, so dont say anything about them not deserving it. And what is this bye crap? That is why hockey is the greatest playoff sport, you play four, seven game series to achieve the ultimate trophy in sport. Not basketball, which isnt physical at all, you play a 5, 7, 7, 7 series, retarted. Have you ever played hockey? NO. I can tell because the lack of respect you showed with your idiotic comment. If you havent seen the intensity pick up from the regular season to the post-season then you must be blind. How about you get a friend, and comment on something you know about. If you havent seen the intensity pick up from the regular season to the post-season then you must be blind. How about you get a friend, and comment on something you know about. Actually, you'd be wrong . . . I played Defense. Many many years. In fact when I played Hockey, there were still Professional Goalies who did not wear any type of head gear. As far as it being the "stupidest" thing ever said. Well, I'm not the only one who's ever said it. So I'm in good company. The greatest playoff sport is American Football. The top ten viewed programs of all time have all been Superbowls. http://www.jsonline.com/enter/tvradio/feb02/17695.asp Setting that aside, I would probably guess that European Football, or Soccer as we call it, is the most popular sport in the world . . . not Hockey. In fact . . . Hockey isn't even the number one sport in Canada, Golf is: http://www.statcan.ca/english/Pgdb/People/...ture/arts16.htm Hell . . . according to Nielson, Hockey didn't even MAKE the top ten sporting events watched in the US during the second to the last week of April! NASCAR was number one and the NBA was "prolific" to say the least: http://www.pazsaz.com/topsprts.html So before you make unqualified statements, you should review your facts. I don't care how you slice it, any sport where the playoffs includes over 50% of the teams that competed for the honor in the first place, is over doing it. It's an attempt by the NHL to broaden interest in the playoffs by incorporating as many markets as possible. It's about dollars . . . nothing more. The potential exists for 105 games to be played to determine a Champion. The teams only play 82 games in the regular season . . . The potential exists for any single team to play 28 games in the post season . . . In other words the post season could concievably equal 34% of the regular season. All this time the potential exists for injury to the players . . . the team with the best record like Boston or Detroit could very well lose some of their best players while playing a series with a team that finished 8th. This would deprive the fans from seeing a matchup like Boston and Philadelphia . . . with both teams at their best. That's tragic and diminishes both the quality of the sport and the achivements of the top teams. Frankly . . . I think that's pretty stupid. As a hockey fan, I'd think you'd feel like you're getting screwed watching a lame team like Vancouver compete against a top notch organization like Detroit. It was a forgone conclusion and a waste of time. But that's my opinion, and I'm entitled to it. Just as you're entitled to yours. In the future, perhaps you should state your case with a bit of eloquence and maturity, rather than insults and emotion. Take a lesson from BroChaos, you'd look much smarter as a result. -TR
axis
Ok I see that you spent the whole rest of your week finding those links and 'facts'. Facts are BS. Do you know why the Superbowl is the highest rated event on TV? Basically because its only one game and thats it, not a SERIES. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world because ANYONE can play it, rich, poor whatever. And it isnt the hardest sport to grasp either, yuppy parents put there kids in it to say they play sports, basicaly. While you were fact checking, i suprised you didnt find anything about hockey not being canada's national sport, thats lacrosse. And no I dont feel screwed with 16 teams, it is rather exciting to watch an 8 beat a 1. Look at detroit, almost got caught slipping and beat. Philly and Boston didnt deserve it, especially philly, 2 goals in the series, that is what upsets me that they are called a 2 seed. I still dont believe you played hockey, you would have never disrespected the game like that. I play and know my sh*t and know better then to ever say what you muttered. Once again, get a friend. TimeRider
Actually, the links took about ten minutes. Canada's national sport is not the issue. The issue is whether Hockey is the "greatest playoff sport." Your words, not mine. I only mentioned soccer and football since you seemed to feel Hockey was s-o-o-o-o-o great as a playoff sport. When in reality, it isn't even a contender. It's a minor concern enjoyed by a small audience compared to other sporting events. I would bet that regular season NBA draws a larger audience than playoff NHL. Hockey doesn't even make the top ten in the Nielsen's, when compared to other sports only. If you think that the Superbowl is the highest rated event on TV simply because it's a single event and not a series . . . well . . . I'm a gentleman so I'll leave my opinions of your assessment alone. Since you brought it up . . . why is it that Lacrosse . . . "Canada's National Sport," isn't even listed among the 27 most popular sports among Canadians? Hell . . . Curling even made the list!! Please . . . thrill me with your acumen . . . Lastly . . . I couldn't care less what you believe. You're just another one of the rude, offensive and self absorbed individuals that cannot stand to have someone disagree with their opinions. You make unqualified remarks and your attitude smacks of immaturity. Anus Caranius Invertus. My 12 year old son has better manners. What you think and believe does not matter as long as you treat others with callous disrespect. Your comments add nothing to the discussion and as such, are valueless. You are a first class, grade A, prime example of exactly what is wrong with the world. You choose to fight over minutea. You talk . . . when perhaps you should just listen. So . . . you can go right along believing that you are right and anyone who disagrees with you is stupid . . . it doesn't matter to me any more than anything else you've said. I'll get a friend . . . if you'll just go away. -TR
Miran
Timerider.. Speak for the given audience, not the audience of academics listening to you in your head.
