syscrash2k
this is probably completely wrong, but does it by any chance mean l337?
Guest Sharpie30K
i have no idea what it means. I see it everywhere! In videogames, SSX Tricky, on websites and it is just driving me nuts that I don't know the damn definition!!!

Simplex
"Uber" is a German term that literally means "over" but which is used in academia to refer to the fundamental essence of a concept or an idea or a character. -http://lunacy.simplenet.com/terms.shtm I always thought Uber meant super. Guest Sharpie30K
are you sure on that, Dazzla? Beacuse to me it doesn't sound like the right meaning. For example, I saw 2 wallpapers on MacDesktops.com that said ?bergeek and ?berguru and if your defination is right then the translation would be "over"geek and "over"guru. It just doesn't sound right.
Deryck
There is a whole lot of translation for "Uber" and this depends on the sentence itself and the word position.

Guest deadzombie
Like many languages, it depends on context. The most recognized context of ?ber would translate in english to super, or superior. At least that's what my German buddies tell me...

antoinebj
?ber is definitely german, and it does mean "over" or "on top of". People who want to look cool use it as a replacement of "super". And when it's used in ?bergeek, then guy who came out with the word didn't really know what ?ber meant. But "super" is also a prefix (latin) that means "over". supersum in latin means "I survive", if I remember correctly.

TommyTourettes
Well I've been wondering what "l337" means for a while now... figured I'd post it here. My best guess would be "leet" which could mean "elite"... but that is a complete stab in the dark.
