kbs
I agree on Tom Clancy, Michael Crichton's not bad, but I personally couldn't get through a whole JRR Tolkien book or Stephen King--just not my type I guess. Dean Koontz, James Patterson (Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider...), Robin Cook Darkness Bound - Larry Brooks Speaker of the Dead - Orson Scott Card (haven't read Ender's Game yet) Watership Down - Richard Adams I can't think of books off the top of my head... I'm currently half way through The Brethren (Grisham) and I'm kind of dissapointed. I knew how it would end by chapter 3. I bought a copy of War & Peace determined I'd read it before I died. So far I haven't...it makes a nice paperweight.
mortensen
crime and punishment - fyodor dostoevsky YES! The best book I've EVER read (actually, one of the few books I've ever wanted to read). It kept me interested so I decided to read some of his other books... I started with 'House Of The Dead' (or similar) and it was tripe... it had very little going for it, though it was an early book in his career. Now I intend to try and read 'The Brothers Karamzov', which was written AFTER 'Crime And Punishment'. Also, Misery by Stephen King is a great book (as is the film). Also, a book in the Fighting Fantasy series (I think) is really good... one of the few books of theirs that didn't require rolling a dice and turning to a specific page... I can't remember its name, but it was a great book featuring Orcs, etc. Steve Jackson was the author I think.

=NickJ=
Has anyone read anything by Patricia Cornwell? I've read like all but one of her books in the Dr. Kay Scarpetta series, they are absolutely fantastic crime thriller novels, first ever books to actually get my heart racing like a film. "Postmortem" is the first in the series, i'd highly recommend it.
