eaglebtc
Hey Neowinians! Just wanted to let you all know that I will be signing off the Internet for the next two years. I have been called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I have been assigned to labor in the Indianapolis, Indiana mission, which covers about 75% of the state. During my two years, I'll be going door-to-door in different cities, sharing a wonderful message about life, families, and how to find eternal happiness through Jesus Christ. In addition, I will be giving freely of my time, talents, and energy in service to the Lord and the people of Indiana. Our prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley (center), has said that every young man (or woman) should serve a mission. This means being physically, emotionally, and spiritually capable of handling all the challenges of a mission. Typically, missionaries do all of the following: walk 5 miles a day, deal with rejection and other stresses, manage a tight schedule and an even tighter budget. But most importantly, missionaries must adhere to very strict "mission rules," or they will be disciplined and possibly sent home. These include :o USING THE INTERNET :o :hurt: :dead:  :( :disappoin, watching TV, going to the movies, reading the newspaper, listening to the radio, discussing politics, having physical relationships with the opposite sex, leaving the mission boundaries, abandoning your missionary companion (Missionaries always travel in pairs for protection). Despite all of these "restrictions" there is a bright side to this work. Every returned missionary (already served) that I have spoen to says that they have learned more on their missions than they could ever have learned in a lifetime. Overall, I think this will be a good experience for me. If you want to leave me messages to read when I get back, send an email to eaglebtc at byu dot edu. It will sit there, unchecked for the next two years, but I would like to read messages from my old friends when I return. IF NEOWIN EVER SHUTS DOWN, SEND ME AN EMAIL IMMEDIATELY!! Well I think that's about it! :D I will be seeing you all again in 2004! Take care, Elder Bradley Chapman

eaglebtc
Actually that link *should* work. Here's another page with pictures of the Prophet, his two counselors, the current twelve apostles, and the first two prophets of our church, Joseph Smith and Brigham Young (both of which you've probably heard of). http://www.lds.org/media2/resources/photos...1-1-381,00.html

Marshalus Veteran Posted May 4, 2002 Veteran Share Posted May 4, 2002 Uh, yeah. My uncles family is LDS, and both of my cousins went on mission trips, although one got very very sick, and almost died, due to the conditions he was living under. I also live down the street from the LDS church in our city, I see a lot of guys in black pants/ties and white short sleeve shirts around my house, since my neighbor is mormon, and he has them over for dinner a lot. No offence either, and I don't want to burn a religion I don't fully understand (though I have tried -- however reading the book of Mormon and the KJV Bible is not an easy task) but a lot of your customs and policies I think are wrong, as a more liberal sided Presbyterian, I really can't agree with your churchs stance on a lot of issue -- but that's what makes America special I suppose, the fact that I can believe what I want, and you can believe what you want, and we can all get along. eaglebtc
Most smaller religions are branded as cults, but not all of them are "pernicious cults." Read this editorial from a man in Santa Clarita, CA about Mormons. Editorial on Mormons

Obraxis
Two years of no internet, tv, women.......f**k, I wouldnt be able to go without any of them. No offense, but to me it sounds like lots of boredom. I mean, u seem to have no forms of entertainment. Im sorry, but I wouldnt want to loose 2 years out of my life talking to people. Most people are nice people. But I think it would get repetative and boring. Anyway, try to have fun doing....erm....things.. -Obraxis
