nexionly
Vancouver is considering using garbage as a source for electricity, Im not sure how but the naturally accuring ammonia or something that is produced when you have a land fill or whatever, will somehow be used to generate power for the largest tomato greenhouse in the world, and something like 5000 homes. Thats pretty neat. Yea BC, we've got the best power, hydroelectric, and now possibly garbage power for a small area! haha. I just think thats kinda neat. EmuZombie Veteran Posted May 5, 2002 Veteran Share Posted May 5, 2002 Here's the real thing about back to the future. In the very begining of Back to the Future 2, "Doc" pulls in through time into Marty's driveway. He quickly rushes out, runs to Marty and says... Doc: You've got to come back with me! Marty: Where? Doc: Back to the future! and then in a rush (why a rush? don't they have a time machine?) Doc goes to the trash, takes a banna peal, some other things, and a beer can. He poors the left over beer and puts it all into a device called "Mr Fusion" Which, if you remember, Mr Food from the 80's was a common house hold appliance.. So, Mr Fusion suggests that sometime in the future we will discover how to create neuclear fusion, and will market it as a household appliance (which, if you read up on fusion, MIGHT be possible, because it is theorised that it is MUCH more safer (and more powerful) then nueclear fission, and anything (such as trash) can be used. Now, if you'll remember, in the first movie we learned that in order to creat the amount of electricity needed to travel through time, they needed to use plutonium to create a nueclear fision reaction. So, it makes ALOT of sence that Doc would upgrade it once he learned of Mr Fusion. After all, no more having to steal plutonium and there wouldn't be a neuclear explosion in the event something went wrong. Sorry, went over board, but.. you get the idea :p
EmuZombie Veteran Posted May 5, 2002 Veteran Share Posted May 5, 2002 oh, and getting back on topic, there are a lot of places that use garbage for generating electricity already, however not as you said... instead they burn it. Which, obviously creates the problem of polution ;)
neowin_hipster
We have more than enough clean hydroelectricity in our province. In fact we send it across the border. why would we resort to dirtier forms of electricity. Am i missing something. I presume we will burn it. RANT Your not totaly correct there, I live on the island and the two power lines that supply 95% of our power are almost to old to be used, and are at 90% of the max capacity. While the mainland has the power it needs, the island does not. Sure you've heard about the gas fired power plant they want to put in Duke Point? Because by 2004 the island will expereince rolling blackouts. /RANT Greenmuncher PS I do not support this power plant becuase it is going to be partialy owned by a US company and we can find other means such as the garbage.
