MSN is releasing a new Messenger this month for Mac OS X that will have File Transfer support, and Office v. X SP-1.

MSN 8.0 is probably going to be released this Fall with Windows XP SP-1, since that release will contain a lot of updates like DirectX 9.0, "Mira" enabled support, "Freestyle" enabled support. Expect a new interface. :)

"Corona" (WMP 9.0) will be next Spring, IE 7.0 isn't something to look for until Fall 2003.

12/10/01 -

MSN Explorer 8 has just passed the "M0" milestone. The aim is for late spring/early summer 2002 for MSN Explorer 8.0. As of now, the slate of enhancements are truly astounding. This will be the first major release since the original release in 2000.

What is on the list, or already included: New "Dr. Watson" (software that monitors quality of service, and upon any crash reports the data to the Mars Data Center), a totally revamped Mail Center which will be able to integrate with other mail (voice or data!) services (imagine going to one inbox to view email and voicemail from multiple sources. Verizon is currently in testing with Microsoft with this.), revamped media player integration, revamped user tile interface, new screensaver functionality, new theming functionality (how open and accessible the theming functionality will be is not spec'd out yet), new "task-based" templates to send photos/files, and new richer email editing features. It will also integrate with .NET My Services allowing for new roaming and shared calendaring, new personal lists, and much more.

There is work on integrating "natural language" instrumentation...meaning "speaking" or ordering MSN Explorer to do this task or that task. Since this has just started, there is doubts that this will be included on this release. Along similar lines, work is progressing on a consumer (MSN) focused .NET My Services Personal Information (PIM) client separate from MSN Explorer. There will also be a PIM client focused on knowledge workers, and one available for the Pocket PC too.

^ - Since we haven't heard anything about 8.0 for awhile, then I am guessing they pushed back the release date till fall.

yeah, i wasn't referring to the messenger software.

Isn't just like IE with MSN messenger built in? I've never used it, personally, so I dont know much about it.

Back in the 6.0 days it was, but now MSN Messenger is more independent, but yeah they are still intergrated a little...

On MSN Explorer messenger tells msn how many buddies are online and shows that on its toolbar,

If you want to be notified and be shown you have new e-mail in MSN Explorer then messenger tells msn.

So yeah I guess they are still intergrated.

I also think that MSN Messenger stores your MSN Explorer online favorites... but I'm not sure.

Also, if you run MSN and MSN Messenger, then in order to sign into messenger you need to use MSN.

^ I hope that makes sense lol.

I have to agree with the Trillian hater. It is just too clogged for my liking. I use AIM and Windows Messenger, and I dont mind having 2 icons in my tray. I really like Trillians idea, but its just not for me until they make it less cluttered.

you are in idiot who apparently REALLY wants to start a fight. That was a pretty LONG shot to infer he uses trillian at all. Then to critize him based on some *possible* action on his part.... yeeeeeeah. Come back when you have a clue.

the point of trillian is to be able to connect to more than one service with one single client. I use AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo! through it. I have friends on each service and i don't want to have to load 4 separate memory hogging programs for possible conversations with 4 groups of people. Trillian does what I need and does it well. It's not copying anything, they're using public resources for your and my own benefit...

was reading the microsoft forums in the msn category and ppl were saying that we shouldnt be suprised to see a customizable interface coming to msn8

so that means, theme makers can probably customize their browser look to the way they want it
