The egg came first

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

The egg obviously came first because only mutations that occur on sexual cells are kept and affect the following generations. Therefore whatever was before the chicken had a mutation in its sexual cells (during one of the million cell divisions) and its egg was therefore affected and became the egg of a chicken.

Of course it was not overnight, the evolution is slow so we can't delimit clearly when the animal evolved from something to chicken. :old: :smart:

Anyway, anybody who knows how reproduction and DNA works can figure out the egg came first. It's scientific and I'm bored hearing the "which came first" question.which has already been answered. :p

If someone understood me, can they please explain it better? I'm sorry but I'm french and I don't know exactly the translation of the scientific words. :ermm:

Its easier to point to a sea turtle [or other such egg laying reptile] and say - "That thing was laying eggs for centuries before the chicken came on the scene."

Pretty much sums up what you were trying to say, but in laymans terms.;)

But actually.. My AP Bio teacher who is extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemly smart and has been teaching for like 40 years, he gave us this whole scientific explanation and everything...

I see your point. Basically at some point, a very chicken like animal laid an egg that had a genetic mutation which survived and propagated into the chicken we know and love today.

according the evolution, I would imagine that the egg came first.

Chickens are probably one of the last steps in the evolution web that keep evolving.

There was probably other creatures before the chicken that layed eggs, hence the chicken came last.

Error in the question.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? *Note it didn't say chicken egg.

:old: :ditsy:

While you all get delusional about the damn eggs and chicken, you fail to realize that the ducks are plotting worldwide conquest.
