Me and my unicycle [Part 1]

Recommended Posts

Oh yes, today was another fun day as I took my unicycle down town again. For anyone that doesn't know I live in Swansea, which has its fair share of plonkers around. NEway, I set off out of my house down my quiet, STEEP hill and as usual picked up a few funny looks on the way down. Not to get too far off track though, I made it down to the bottom of my STEEP hill to be greated by loads of stares as per usual.

Then - on my lovely eventful journey - I got the usual 'witty' remarks from the dolts that live around here.

"Oh, where's the other half?"

"What happened to the other half?"

"Ha, you're missing half your bike"

In case you hadn't guessed LOTS of people think that they are the first one to think of the 'missing a half' joke. PLEASE, if you see a unicyclist, DON'T say you're missing the other half.

Then on the bridge I came across some people I 'knew' [well, they've talked to me before.... I think they know me but I don't have a clue who the hell they are... :s]. Next came some more very common lines.

"Do you work at a circus?"

Hmmm... well, not wanting to be rude I smiled and continued on my attention seeking activity.

I managed to get down to the local skate park - next to our leisure centre - where I was greated [happily] by loads of people cheering - as per usual - as I unicycled past. This always makes me happy.

You may think that this story it pretty dull by now... well, you're wrong. Who should I meet on the way back by... another person that used to ride a unicycle. Believe me when I tell you this but unicycles are VERY rare. So, we started talking and he used to unicycle 6 or 7 years ago and also juggled. He also helped me with my technique for mounting the unicycle - this is a LOT harder than just riding it for 1 mile; seriously.

Then came my best achievement so far... I managed to get all the way up my STEEP hill, over curbs and up particularly steep sections, without falling off [in a careful and skillful way as per usual ;)]. Well, that just made my day.

On a final note you may ask why this is called '[Part 1]'. Well, there is a good reason for this. Tomorrow is my last day at school before study leave and so I will be taking in my unicycle to school. Lots of people have already heard that I can ride a unicycle - or a 'tricycle' as many people seem to like calling it - but few have seen me actually riding it. Let's just hope that I can make it through the day without too many bruises. :p

Surely it was a whole lot fun
Yeah, it is always fun going out on my unicycle. Swansea is a very built up city and there is a lot of traffic, so as you can imagine I get a LOT of stares. I enjoy it though and I love letting other people try to have a go - it is a lot more difficult than it looks.
Great story, It is however lacking a picture of you riding your unicycle which I think would be neat to see.

I'll have to do that sometime... I've got a digital camera so I just have to get someone to take a picture for me and then I'll put it up here. I'm not promising I'll have time to do it soon but I'll have to show you all... I think I'll get my brother to take some pictures of me on my unicycle tonight (if possible and if I remember).

For some reason I got roped into riding mine at a school talent show when I was a weee lad, which was pretty embarasing, even more so when I was riding it up the main road to school.

I must have heard the 'half missing' comment 30 or 40 times on the way home.

It aint big, it aint funny, it just deserves a slap ;)

man, i tried getting on one once, with the use of a basketball hoop pole, and i couldn't even come close. i couldn't even COMPREHEND how you'd get on one. it was that hard. and i have pretty good balance/skills too.

I tried a unicycle at a circus... I can't even stay balanced on that thing. I kept falling off, and everybody laughed, But anyways i do think they are cool.
