Best Web Browser Ad Blocker

Question

I typically use AdMuncher (www.admuncher.com) for my Advertising Blocking needs while surfing but it seems to be getting caught up on many of the new PHP sites and hasn't been updated in a while.

I'm curious, what is the best program in this field out there?

I need something that does embedded ads, image ads, popups and stuff like that. I don't care about cookies or things like that given I use other applications to manage that part.

Let me know what you'd suggest and where to get it!

Thanks,

I'm useing adsubtract pro, and ad muncher

except i'm not useing admunchers filters list

adsubtract pro has

ad filter

background filter

pop-up windows filters turned on

with admuncher the only thing thats turned on is

remove banners under the advanced/filter options tab

change browser identification string

those two working together I never see ads or pop-ups

Meaya is the only one for me!

It kicks all the other's asses!!!

I never want to remove banners, I can easily ignore them, and removing them messes up the layout of many sites.

But popups suck, and Meaya removes them without interaction, and without removing the ones you want.

I think the best program is Filtergate. It automatically removes all the pop-ups, banners and has other features too. The new version has 3 settings for the Filter-Strenght: Soft, Medium, Hard. If you select the last one, you will never see ads or pup-ups anymore. The program updates its filters automatically. The only problem is that is not free... but it has a trial version.

The latest beta version is here:

The official version is at Filtergate's webpage:

Heh.. I can't even open the link with my pop-up program.. I need a new one.. It's about 5 years old..

Do new ones monitor your clicks and let you open the pages you want?

Meaya Popup Ad Filter IS the best, in my opinion. I wont use anything else. I like to be able to hit 'Ctrl' to let it open a page and whatnot.

How is meaya in comparison to panicware popup stopper pro? i like the integration as a IE tool bar, but if it's that much better, i'm always willing to change :)

Why do you need integration to the IE bar?

Meaya sits silently in the tray, and kills all popups without you "teaching" it like AdShield and whatnot.

If you want to load popups in a webpage, just hold CTRL, and Meaya is temporarily disabled.

And by the way, the tray icon is veeery good looking, it has a distinctive Office XP style :)

Like this:

pop.jpg

Edit: And hey, it even beeps when killing a popup, so you will always know if you "miss" something.

(Sometimes you want the popup, and when you hear the beep, you can reload while pressing CTRL, and the popup will, well, pop up :) )

I always used Filter Gate even when it was called Ad Filter

Pop up ad filter works good as well

Pop up Ad killer works good

Sygate fire wall

The XP firewall

I run all all five at the same time never a pop up on my puter

...& don`t forget the latest version of ZoneAlarm Pro 3 also has pop-up & advert disabling features built in.

Saves having to run extra programs in the taskbar & saves resources too. (Shareware though - but worth it for the firewall alone.)

I've used PopUp Ad Filter and AdSubtract Pro, but in my opion, AdPurger is the best of it's kind. It does everything PopUp Ad Filter does flawlessly and I've been able to configure it to block any banner/image I want it to, but it does a great job on blocking almost every banner on it's own. Very configurable, global and per-site settings. No icon, though there is a button on internet explorer showing whether it's on or off which you can disable. The options you get to from IE's "Tools" menu("AdPurger..."). Not only that but I was easily able to make it follow my "no shareware" policy I have on my computer, even yesterday when I got the new version ;)

http://www.free.surfer.tc - Free Surfer

http://personal.atl.bellsouth.net/mia/k/r/kryp/ - Spy Blocker

These 2 are freeware alternatives... I run them with no probs... Free Surfer passed that pop-up test someone posted and it didn't block the "New Window" from the post to the test page!

Unfortunatly Spy Blocker went Shareware reacently... but the version 4.75 is still out there and free!

Running Win XP Pro and they work fine... much more enjoyable surfing experience!

Hope this helps....!!

PopUpPopper.. Each time you click a link and a new window is about to open, it intercepts it and ask if you want to allow the popup from the site once or to block the entire site. Quite good if you fill it up with all the known popup sites. Anyhow, it's very configurable and free.. I'd recommend it.
