C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\driver.cab

Recommended Posts

it's all the drivers for all the possible hardware that xp supports not just your hardware!

Therefore, it's big as xp supports lots of hardware! (xp supports more hardware than any other previous windows version)!

but don't delete it because you could stop windows xp from starting!

you can delete it if you have the xp cd.

if you add something and it ask you to find a driver you can get it from D:I386DRIVER.CAB

D: being my cd rom drive

even with the cd, do not delete it!

this is because if windows xp needs a driver before actually opening the UI (the moving blue progress bar bit) if won't prompt, it will blue screen and safe mode don't make a difference.

trust me, ok! if you're trying to save disk space, empty your temp folders (each user + common) and other disk wasting folders, instead!

if Windows ever needs it, you can use the copy off your CD!

there is NO REASON to have a second copy on your hard drive.

yup, save yourself a 70+ MB

one thing 73.1 megs is noy big

if ur whining about space del your dllcache

secondly its a necessity

its quicker than having to restore the damn file everytime

and i do believe windows links off the driver cab in some way

so keep it

unless you're constantly installing drivers and files from the default WinXP install, you dont need the file.

WinXP never uses it except for driver stuff... and you can have it look at the i386 folder instead on the CD.

i usually keep WindowsDriver Cache, and WindowsSystem32DLLCache completely empty at all times...

ive been doing that ever since using betas of Windows 2000 back in 1999... after all these years, i have YET come across ANY reason to keep that 300+ megs of junk when it can be just as easily access from the Install source (a network drive, a folder on your hard drive, or the Install CD).
