Does "computer" have a nickname?

Recommended Posts

Would you like to tell me which one is the nomenclature of "computer", and which one is in fact its nickname in the following? Thank you.

(1) calculating machine

(2) calculator

(3) computer

(4) counting machine

(5) or the name which you know

P.S. if possible or you like, please tell me the nickname of "computer" in your locality.

my friend wanted to give my compute a whole bunch of nicknames (ie. thinktank).

me, being the simple but stylistic person that i am, just choose to use number designations. so i began with "oneofthree", "twoofthree", and "threeofthree" because windows doesn't allow the names to start with numbers. now a days, i prefer to drop the ends because i'm just plain lazy:

"one", "two", "three"

hehehehehehehe:D

I call mine "The Machine". From Family Guy, where Chris says "Way to go Dad! Fight the machine!", and Stewie says "Who told you about the machine?!?". Always struck me as being really funny. :)

My server is called "Asgard".

My old HP PII 333 (which just won't die - it's an amazing machine!) is called "Odin"

My wifes machine was "Loki", but he was sold for twice what I built him for.

My personal machine is always called "Thorshammer".

I refer to them as "sys" (short for system) or "box".

My workstation doesn't have a name, since it's a Fujitsu/Siemens piece of **** can, but after the summer i'll have my own homebuilt one and I will probably call that something. My linux router/fileserver is called "Hot Mama Box" for no reason at all :)

The three 'puters in my house are for no reason at all named...:

(Can't really remember why they're called what they're called):

  • Mexico
  • Zion
  • Calcutta

Considered calling one of 'em 'Lortespand' :D...

I have a little Norse blood in my veins....German/ Scandanavian/ Scottish...2 out of 3 isn't bad.

Thorshammer gets a major overhaul every 6 months, so he stays top of the line...the box is at 1.4 right now with over a GB of mem...he's due for a new mobo and chipset here soon.

Yanno, I think he was asking if the word 'computer' had a nickname, not if *your* computer had a nickname. -_-

But anyway, nicknames for computers range from PC, CPU, and box to comp and puter. I call 'em puters, just cuz it sounds better and is easy to say. I wonder if everybody pronounces it the same--I say it like pooter, but I've heard at least a few people say pyooter. Freaks.

My computer used to be named chaos, but then I stopped believing in chaos, and I dropped the name. Now I just call it my piece of $hit.

My nickname for the computer is " 'puter". When it doesn't do as I say it's called "you stoopid stinkin piece o ****", although threats don't really affect how it works. It would work great if I'd stop tinkering with it.

:D:D:D:D

Love your box.

Talk nicely to it. Clean it often. Show it the loving affection it deserves, and it will always treat you nicely.

Unless your a moron and you try to clean the inside of your case with Windex, then you're screwed.
