The battle royal! Which one is superior?

My vote goes to the taskbar simply because it's easy to access, much smaller than that huge dock, it has labels, can be easily customized, it has a system tray that can be expanded and it houses the magnificent start menu! :D

have you ever worked with a dock before? do you know how many options it has? especially compared to the taskbar?

you can make the dock any size you want, so it wins in that case. i don't think windows taskbar is easily customizible, but maybe that's just me.

hands down the dock wins.

The dock is nice to look at, but that's about it...For functionality the taskbar is better.

Unless it's been hidden manually, the Dock is always visible, and guaranteed to overlay the foreground application window. Many Carbon applications don't know where the Dock is, so if you maximise an application, the window's resize handle (and there's only one) is now inaccessible. So off you go, and hide the dock, just so you can grab the handle and resize the window? That's stupid.

No problem, you say, just put the Dock on the Left, But then you get another example of the mismatched UI klutziness: new window instances don't know where the Dock is either. And the Aqua geniuses have put the three control buttons (minimize, maximize, close) on the left hand side. So a new Finder window will appear with the windows controls obscured. That means giving each new window a little rightward shuffle. It's a tiny problem, but it gets amplified when you have to do it over and over again.

If you put the dock on the right, the arrows point right and the menu springs left, that's just plain stupid too.

But bessideds all the asthetics...Aqua really slows the system down too much for such an unintuitive UI.

XP's UI might not be as pretty but it's much more intuitive.

...Also, There is no way to know where an open application might be mixed in with all the persistent ("favorite") applications. This will make switching programs difficult. Another problem is that none of the icons have text labels. Which of my hard drive partitions is that? What's in that blank folder over there? Unless I "scrub" my mouse cursor over the Dock, I'll never know.

Another problem is the fact that minimized windows tend to all look like blurry white squares of various proportions. There's really no way to tell what one window might be as opposed to another, and sometimes even cursor scrubbing doesn't help: "Favorites".

Taskbar all the way... cause macs suckk.....

but for those who think the dock is better, I admit it is pretty coool...

But the Taskbar wins cause you can turn it INTO a dock... so you can have both in one :)

muahah I win!!! ;)

...I remember reading an article, which Spelt out the very Same Criticisms! ..."hmmm" ...

...Oh, and on the Slowdown note, with Aqua, Aqua Can Run Perfectly fine on the Latest G4 based machines! ... it's Speed, Effects ... the Whole Damn Thing makes XP Look a Generation behind! IMHO! :D

ravenger: i thought you meant like physical customization, not aesthetic customization. like moving tabs around, etc.

I admit, Dock looks nicer :p But wow... so inconvenient. No labels, what happens when you have several folders open beside themselves? You have no clue what's what :p
