deadzombie i'll have to disagree with you the task bar does nothing but have a clock and show task in it and the menu thats about it. lets see the dock. hmm looks better does the same thing, now u can even have a menu like the tastbar. has auto hide like windows does :roll: isn't a res hog is its own app so it doesn't take as much resources. and its made by apple :p

Aaah, my friend Unsanity;

The taskbar includes the start menu, the task switcher and the notification area (system tray). And yes, although the dock looks 1000% better, the taskbar is simply more versatile both out of the box and with the addition of freeware.

With freeware apps, the taskbar can support multiple desktops, full transparency, media player controls and menu launchers in addition to the start bar, to name a few.

Natively, the Taskbar supports high quality alpha blended icons (no animations, I admit :( ), taskswitch, quicklaunch, autohide, dragging to all 4 edges of the screen, address bar, app grouping, icon dragging, recent documents, highlighting of newly installed apps and access to ALL of Windows applications, including the ability to custom group those apps during the applications install (or later...), not to mention a multitude of custom folders at the users command...

The taskbar is the OSX dock and finder bar rolled into one easy access interface. And it takes up little resources while being used on over 89% of computer desktops worldwide, allowing instant user recognition and interaction.

Taskbar wins function, OSX wins the beauty pagent...

IMO!!!

i agree with DeadZombie...

it's funny how you don't see anybody come back and explain all of these "versatile" functions that the Dock has...

(please do it so someone can prove me wrong)

...besides, I am the Lord of computers throughout the cosmos...if I say the Taskbar is superior, then so be it!

i personally like the taskbar...its simple, efficent, and gets the job done with ease...the dock is good for looks, i agree on that, but looks arent everything...simple as that...

My fellow Neowinians, lol

I love Mac's dont get me wrong i mean i own one, but the fact is Windows is a much easyer OS, than any, very easy to use and gets the job done much quicker, and the taskbar is the same, not as clean and as sweet as the Dock i agree, but im just used to the Taskbar, and i think thats why people arn't giving the dock a chance bc they dont use it on a daily basis, anyways i have asked 100,000,000 friggin times, please sumon e-mail me a damn link so i can get a good dock on my XP system, thanks

I think it's fair to say that OSX?s aqua UI is aimed to appeal mainly to women and "girly" boys since they are the ones that usually get caught up on style. Sure it may have it?s features, but style is the first priority above all.

Where as Windows UI is pretty utilitarian and is aimed at making the job easier...all while still looking pretty good.

It?s just a matter of preference.

If you ask me it's very similar to the way people prefer different cars. You have the people that go out and buy a Volkswagen Beetle because it's so "cute"...Those kinds of people are greatly influenced by "cuteness" in my opinion kind of like Macheads.

Where as people like me, we like Jeeps because they kick ass...My Jeep is always muddy and I couldn't care less...I like kicking up mud on those darn little Volkswagen Beetles.

Yeah, if you want to use this analogy, go ahead:

Lamborghini is to Taskbar

as

Volvo Stationwagon is to Dock.

Hands down, Taskbar wins. It's easily accessible, can be customized (we tWeAk!), is nice and small, and is fun to have. Game over, I :)n. :)

I'm willing to be that either he has never used Windows XP in his life or is still upset that he chose a Mac with OSX rather than a PC with XP. :D

As Lord of computers throughout the Cosmos, I have come to your aid;

You will need DesktopX, by Stardock, version 1.1 or later for this version; MMX Mercury Dock for XP, please read the entire thread and email me if you have any questions. Second, you can email dazzla or correllium and one of them has an actual dock app that was accidentally released by Stardock, called object dock...it is an alpha version of the OSX dock. Doesn't look as good as mine, but retains taskbar functions on the dock where mine is just a nice looking app launcher with animations.

You may thank me later...
