After reading about the Mattel Power Glove i was inspired and was wondering about what the worst peripherals in the history of gaming were.

I think the glove is definetly up there!

lol! i had a feeling that would be the first one listed. they're bit rare now i think, probably cos parents destroyed them to save their childrens' eyesight.

Nintendo's R.O.B. controller:

rob-robot.jpg

Long before Dean Kamen used gyroscopes to create the most idiotic looking method of transportation this planet has ever seen, Nintendo was using them to create video games. R.O.B. the robot had eyes that would detect your commands that were flashed up on the TV screen. He would then pick up a spinning gyroscope and lay it down on whichever platform you chose, and the weight of it would push a button on the controller #2. Without a doubt, it was a unique concept... but it just didn't fly with the kids.

There weren't many games for R.O.B. as it was, and "Gyromite" (the game R.O.B. came with) was pretty much near impossible to win when using him. Besides, we all enjoyed squashing the Gyromite guy way too much, so there wasn't much motivation to "win" the game anyway. It was pretty fun to make rob pick up the gyroscopes and then spin them on the floor though... that is, until they rolled off the table and the plastic pieces cracked into pieces.

Hmm, I can think of a few. I'd have to say that the 32X is pretty high up there, but the Power Glove, R.O.B., and the Virtual Boy are still worse.

The MS Strategic Commander was kindof sucky, never really worked as well as it should have.

There was also this Radio shack cat thing that my dad had. You would use it to scan a barcode that would take you to a website of a product. bad bad bad

last but not least would be a smartcard reader that came with my credit card a few years ago, never figured out what that could be used for and never took off.

What! it is the best way to control Winamp with your eyes closed and no need to recharge any batteries, I used it on my HTPC to control my menus to start music and videos, it's the only device that fits perfectly in your hand without so you can easily find any keys you need without moving your fingers.
