Vermont basketball game ends 5-2

MILTON, Vt. -- Hard to imagine a 3-pointer in the second quarter of a high school boys' basketball game would turn out to be the winning basket -- unless it's one of only three made in the entire game.

That basket, along with an earlier field goal, was all Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax needed to beat Milton on Wednesday night. The final score: 5-2.

Smith said the slowdown was implemented because BFA (7-4) has a strong scoring presence, while Milton (2-8) does not. The Milton players believed their best chance to be competitive was to just hold onto the ball.

To the point where they could only make 2 points!! And why wouldn't the other team intentionally foul at some point?

I played high school basketball.

A 35 second shot-clock should be imposed for all high school games. I hate when old school coaches just tell their players to run out the clock. It's embarrassing.

I just read this...I don't really understand it.

The team with the "high scoring presense" ended up winning 5-2. Why was the other team holding onto the ball? They were losing. Were they just looking for a last second shot to win and missed?

That's so sad. There was nothing I hated more than when there was about 2 minutes left in the game and the other team started running the clock out.

High school needs a shot clock. Badly. This type of travesty should never be allowed to occur.
