username
I am getting my cable internet hooked up today (AT&T) and I somehow get HBO and Showtime for free. I don't know how, I am not stealing it. So, here is the big question, do you think I will still get HBO and Showtime after the cable internet is still hooked up? It?s actually a difficult tradeoff decision for me. Vlad
You sure it's not part of some package deal like "sign up now and get one month of free showtime and hbo"? Either way, I doubt that installing the cable will have any effect at all on what channels you recieve.
greatpumpkin02
I think you'll still have it - The people who lived in this house before us worked for the cable co. and set it up so they had all the channels and when the AT&T people came out to set up the @home stuff we didn't lose any channels...so I think you're in the clear ;)
username
no, we have the package above basic, Also, i notice that we don't have the big gray box on the side of our house like many other people do, the cable goes right from under the ground to inside. Maybe its someplace on the utility pole. This is going to be interesting. I had a friend dont the steet get hooked up a few days ago and this guy just has a work oder to install the new cable wire. So I don't think he has anything to do with the cable TV, just the broadband.

vodkacow
the cable company gives you all the channels when the cable line arrives at your house. When it reaches a grey box outside your house, a "filter" is placed onto the line. Because of this filter, it filters out all the channels that you haven't paid for. When the cable guy came and installed the new line for your cable modem, he probably either a)was to lazy to put back the filter or b) forgot to put back the filter. so volia!!! you got all the channels........ :) simple as that! username
yeah, the guys was cool, we chatted about a few things, still dont have the gray box. My friend had it installed the other day and I saw those round "filters" or whatever in his box. However, because we never got a grey box, he just slpit the line inside the house and I was set. Had HBO on the TV just to see if it went off but still alive, thank god.
