nekrosoft13
when i got my first computer p200mhz its was a hp i really didn't know anything about computer, something got screwed up and i had to take it best buy to get it fix. i told them to fix it, they just used the recovery cd :right: . i could have done that by myself in my house and they charged me $80 bucks for that:hurt: that was the last time i took any of my computers to get them repaired from now i solve 95% of issues by myself live is great now
altezza Veteran Posted May 21, 2002 Veteran Share Posted May 21, 2002 Download the password enabled software and give your folder or directory a long and easy to remember password so anyone cannot access it except yourself. Also they can't transfer the file through network because the folder will be encypted ;) Otherwise, no. I will respect people privacy and unless I was instructed then I will do so. I don't care the contents of their hard drive but I only interested in repairing Windows or software troubleshooting.
Evil Dragon
Ya know, unlike most people here, I probably only owe the goverment say $1500, and it's there fault, they stole it... :paranoid: :ponder:

nomis_nehc
hehe, couple posts up, the topic seems to be of something else. anyways, I think probably one day computer repair people will be outta business. (maybe :/) why? because there's these cards (pci bus) that you can plug in back of your comp that actually images your pc at all times. say your comp get f*ed right this moment? no problem, it can be restored right away. and it don't work like that crap system restore windows try to pull. this is on the hardware level. even partition that has been formatted many many times, or even corrupted mbr, etc etc it can still restore it to previous state. magical isn't it? as of now, it is more readily available for servers and networks. but I believe one day it will be more available to the public, and hey, computer repair people, bye byes~ of course, this only has to do with software repair. so maybe they won't be outta jobs after all... :p
kintamanate
lol, first off..thanks for sharing all your stories guys..the evil wild side of comp repair shops, the @home nude pics finder guy..that was funny..(just whip out a disk from your pocket-for emergencies only;). pop it in the comp..and copy..:p ) I can only remember 1 time we had to take our old pII 233mhz in for repair. that was before we knew anything about comps. (we as in me and 'rents). I had DOOM I AND II on there..neverhad any discs..i was so mad to hear that the repair people whiped clean the hard drive..and for wht..they never even explained what was wrong..I'm thinking back..i could have whiped it myself. i dont even know what was wrong with the computer. Well now I know better. I have a dual boot computer, so if one fails. i have a back up os to mend things together. (preferably 1 ntfs 1 not.) About the file snooping? I dont keep such sensitive data in plain view like c: or even d:..or my other drive roots. I keep in sub of sub of sub..etc etc of sub directory. and i dont name it something obvious like "livecallgirls" or "warez" or stuff like that..(not that i do any of that stuff:paranoid: ). eithe rway i back up occationally (like when my computer starts to flop. or i run out of room). hehe, a funny program i cam by one day of surfing. called camoflage. it encrypts dats, passwords it. and makes it act like another file. ex. say you have a txt doc full of passwords for all your stuff. you can run it thru camoflage, and add the "mask" of say..a picture of a fuffy bunny. now when u try to take a look at the txt doc. it will open showoing that fuffy bunny. or.. this one is alittle mor elaborate..u can edit the registry and take off the little arrow on the shortcut icons. make a folder full of icons and folders. make the shortcuts lead to other parts of the computer. and have the folder you intend lead you where u wanna go. #1 it will drive snoops insane #2 you'll keep your data reletevely safe (note..for extra insane fun..make subfolders of the main folder:devious:
