pacifica
"Would You Like Fries With That?"(AP) _ The McDonald's restaurant in Hermiston, Oregon is outsourcing customers drive-thru meals to North Dakota. The restaurant on Highway 395 has outsourced one of the most important jobs at the drive-through window -- order taking. When a customer drives through, they'll be patched through to Grand Forks, North Dakota to place the order. Why? Because the minimum wage in North Dakota is five-dollars and 15 cents, compared to Oregon's seven-dollars and 25 cents. Tim Nesbit is head of Oregon A-F-L-C-I-O. He says this undercuts Oregon's minimum wage by more than two-dollars an hour. A McDonald's media relations person in Illinois, where the corporate headquarters is based, never returned a phone call to the A-P. McSource let the comments begin... pacifica
i dont get it 585436550 you drive up to the micky d's in oregon. you talk into the box and you're patched through to north dakota where they ring up your big mac and happy meal. apparently the guys taking the order in ND are two bucks and some change cheaper than the workforce in oregon. VGVL
this is truly sad 585436725 Why? They must have researched it quite a bit and came to the conclusion that it would increase their profits. Its what companies do and there's nothing wrong about it. I'm pretty sure this was just a test location, if it works they'll probably implement it in other places.

Marduk
What a retarded concept, they really are racing to the bottom as macrosslover said, but I mean this is really low, it's VERY retarded if they can't bite off minimium wage for their drones then I'd say watch your asses big wigs of McD's. Mostly all you hear of outsourcing is with real jobs that actually pay. If Mc Donalds does this everywhere then they'll be raping the country more than maybe even WalMart has. Devil Fish
Investors in People, I think not... Considering all the advertising McDonalds spends money on, you would think that this money would be best spent on keeping jobs within the local community and building community links. But, being McDonalds and knowing their past this, sadly, doesn't surprise me. :(

matt74441
Wow. Now that is just sad. And all that work just to save like $50 a day. I wonder how much it costs to patch the calls through all day long. I don't know about the McDonalds, or any fast food store for that matter in America, but up here in Canada, the person who takes the drive thru orders also works cash at the front and in the kitchen. At night when it's quiet you order and get your food from the pickup window.
Jelly2003
next stop INDIAthank god they dont send helicopter with your burger from North Dakota 585436890 LMAO!!! The scarey thing is that it is definatley possible today. Heck with the communications technology of today, I right here in Australia could start taking the drive through orders for the McDonalds resturants in question. I could easily imagine someone with an Indian accent taking my order at a drive through. This is low, McDonalds has such a positive image for employing young people, its amazing that would even think about doing something like this, which would ruin that image, and make them loose customers at the same time. It wold be a lot harder for them to implement oursourcing in Australia, because just about every McDonalds drive through Au actually has a person in a window that takes your order, then you drive through to the next window and pick up your order. They got rid of all their speaker system drive through about 5 - 10 years ago.
ssvegeta384
Dumbest thing ever. I was wondering why all the McD's in Oregon closed thier DT windows. Now it's just a sad empty box in the middle of nowhere.
