What Do You Hate Most About Your Computer?

While it has been called the greatest invention of the 20th century--and perhaps of all time--the computer still has plenty of problems. Visit any office around the globe, and you'll get an earful of complaints, often of the explicit nature: hard drive-erasing viruses, sneaky spyware, unexpected crashes, in-boxes filled with spam, slothlike performance and other foibles that we can't quite explain. Mountains of money have been earned by myriad companies trying to keep these amazing machines running. On Monday, IBM, Sony and Toshiba introduced us to the Cell, a fast new microprocessor apparently capable of running multiple devices all by itself. That should take care of those sluggish load times.

And unless you're a Mac user, what's a day at the office without seeing the word "Microsoft" emblazoned somewhere on your desktop? The software juggernaut announced Tuesday that it is buying anti-virus firm Sybari Software (nasdaq: SYBS - news - people ). Soon Bill Gates and company will be helping us protect ourselves against Internet-based threats and taking on other hard-drive guardians Symantec and McAfee.

So we ask you, what is it that you hate most about your computer?

I doubled the poll here as well, as I think it would be handy to see how Neowin's results compare to other readers of Forbes.

It doesn't handle Counter-Strike in 800x600 resolution well, but it handled CS in 1024x768 just fine. That ****es me off. In 800x600, the screen blinks and CS will minimize itself, or even close. And the "Going to Sleep" screen always pops up when going to a new map or something. Doesn't happen in 1024x768 though!

Other than that, my computer is flawless. ['cept it has less than 256 RAM, stupid intergrated video card]

My only complaint, it's slow, but that's my fault as i went for cost over performance. :pinch:

I hate all of the above, even though I never have problems, but I need to prepare for those things anyway.

I need some kind of firewall, don't I?

I need antivirus, don't I? Well... mine is always turned off but my parents always have it running.

I need to change to a different browser just to be on the safe side. (I've used IE and never got problems, but not everyone in the house knows how to use IE properly)

Pop-ups are annoying. Some of them are actually friendly.

And that slows down the performance.

I also need a spam filter or I need a ugly e-mail account somewhere.

There's nothing wrong with my computer, but my ISP seem to have problems sometimes.

The thing that I hate most......is not about the computer itself - but moreso the 'Internet'.

Look at us - we are in 2005. Some people have 10mbit connections - and all the crap on the Internet slows everything down. DOS attacks for example, pain in the arse. Viruses and spam travelling around, wasting CPU time and bandwidth. If the Web was clean and totally efficient - we would experiece a lot less hassle and faster connections.

My computer itself is fine. Take good care of it, maintain it - and you will be a happy bunny. Only the user decides to let spyware/adware/malware install on your system. There are loads of free programs out there that will protect you from common threats. Go and get them.

Doesn't have enough Lesbian porn stored on it; Nah seriously, it would be great if it would dispense ice cold range juice. Don't do that!

I voted for slow performance.

After every 2-3 months after a format your PC starts to get cluttered and things SEEM to take longer to load... Not as repsonsive as a nice new format and clean install with latest drivers.

other then that, fine really.
