Overclocking a Dell

Recommended Posts

/me also would be interested. (me & freeza have virtually the same pc)

i'm guessing that at this point, its either very difficult or impossible to o/c a dell. but it may just be because dell is for n00bs. family computer...not my choice..

at least i have zero of the original software or drivers that came with it installed

hrm for my friends old one (prolly useless for new ones) there was a jumper that allowed an additional feature to be enabled in the bios. after setting it to on, an fsb option occured but only had 66/100/133 for settings. then after it was set, the jumper needs to be returned. he had a mad old one tho. who knows

btw can a mod move this to Overclocking?

i'm no overclocker, but as far as i understand unless you can change the clock multiplier on your motherboard or increase the FSB Speed you can't over clock the system.

usually on REAL Motherboards, not the 10.00 ones that OEM's use have this in BIOS or DIP or JUMPERS on the motherboard.

People buy Deal because they are new to the world of PC'z.... They want whats easy, no thinking , just plug and play....

I'm the dell tech to all my friends who made the mistake of ordering a Dell..... all the real dell techs tell you is Reformat...!!!

When you buy a dell, you buy for reliability. Overclocking is not supported by Dell and the reason is; most people don't have a clue as to what they are doing and Dell refuses to deal with that. I have XPS D300 and have had for 4 years. Not once have I had a problem with the hardware. It just works and that's becuse I can't tinker with it.

Dell's are fantastic machines, just don't try to soup'em up.

My son now has my Dell 300 and I have a ASUS P4T533-C, and specifically choose that board for the overclocking capabilities.

If anyone is looking for a laptop, try the new P4 ASUS line of laptops. Look at the L38C Series or L38S Series, awesome machines!

To be honest, factory built computers are never the best... You must have started out trying to jump on the computer bandwagon... but no factory built computer are "the best"! They are all crap...

ok, bad news I'd say. even if you could set a multiplier, you cannot change the voltage of a dell board and that is basically it. only option is to solder yourself and I think you better buy a new mobo then. there are better ones for a decent price. but, as already mentioned, no warrenty anymore.

I own a Dell and I think they make good PCs for a good price and Maximum PC should know when they give a 9(10) for a Dell 8100.

Actually, I bought my Dell for the warranty... it wasn't my first computer and I never need Dell tech support anyway. My first comp was a Packard Bell that I got 9 years ago... talk about telling people to format all the time... and it was mostly hardware problems too

They use cheap part's to cut down the cost, Winmodems' ect..... every thing is so propriatry. For example, here at MSN tech support, Dell's come with DELL NET by MSN, same software ect, but it says DELL NET by MSN, but there is one twist, if a customer uninstall's that software and the reinstall's the regualer free version of msn explorer, it wont' work! So over clocking a dell or modding a dell is dumb.

Compaq, Dell, HP, Gateway..............burn in hell I am tired of dealing with your crappy O.S. install's bad hardware, bloated software.

edit::::wait no....It's job security.

That is so true, my poor friend spent all day reformatting a total of 9 or 10 times before the problem was fixed. All it need was new drivers...
