Ironguy
DOes this have anything to do with CPU priority and running programs? There is a hack that basically prioritizes the 'on top' program with CPU cycles. Don't know much about it though...
baphomet_irl Veteran Posted October 29, 2001 Veteran Share Posted October 29, 2001 lol, when i went to windows update, I got a BSOD, so I dont have the PIII optimisation installed :s they really should provide the updates as seperate executables we can download.... Glowstick
Changing thread scheduling priority and IRQ8 priority won't BSOD your box. But I never knew of these switches. Do they work in Win2K?
stupid
shiznit i did this tweak and now it's kinda slower. now i wanna reverse it but i forgot what the old ones were. does anyone know the default reg values before applying this? help please
c.w.
I got p3 and never used tweak and this is my default... [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPriorityControl] For "Win32PrioritySeparation" the value is 2 and I don't have the value "IRQ8Priority". So delete it if you added that. And I shouldn't have to tell you to BACKUP your damn registry when you make changes to it. Just export the whole damn thing to a directory. Glowstick
what does IRQ8Priority??
Mertsch
"IRQ8Priority"=dword:00000001 this is simply to switch priority of IRQ 8 this is in most cases the CMOS ......... I have also set it ..... this should bring an overall system improvement .... but not 100% sure if this really does something ...... it is NOT bad so just add it .... sure thing it is NOT in the registry because on normal the priority = 0 and doesn't need to be added "Win32PrioritySeparation" on my system it is default ..... 26 I think it is just the same as above but for the windows system ... nothing special and u won't notice to much ...... mcb
how bout a new thread with a re-do of A/The surefire way to get this speed boost?
Sk_illed
It set a high priority for the CMOS/System timer... I read about this tweak on another big site's tweak guide.... but I didnt notice any improvement... but it didnt say it was only for P3's it said it applied to all CPU's with a guarunteed performance increase accross the board. Kosh Naranek
Well ... IF your realtime clock isn't located on IRQ 8 then you will be giving another device in your system a "boost" ! So BE SURE your realtime clock is on IRQ 8 before applying this REG TWEAK
shark1
I doubt that you will get a performance boots, and if you get some you wont even notice..

BananaMan
Just e-mailed you the driver wonk.. As for the registry tweak, I tried it on a previous setup and there as no signs of improvement, it did seem to run a little slower but I didn't have any benchmarks handy (nor the energy to actually benchmark a bloody registry tweak) so I can't say for certain if there's any performance lag. It's perfectly safe though, it didn't bugger up my PC and as someone already said on this thread (I think), this isn't P3 specific. Cheers! :D
