Nah, Longhorn is scheduled for late 2006, so it would probably make sense if they named it Windows 2007. That is only if they are going the year nomenclature.

Think NT versions. Windows 2000 was NT 5.0, XP was NT 5.1, 2003 Server was 5.2 (AFAIK), so this is either 5.3 or 6.0.

Windows 1.x

Windows 2.x

Windows 3.x

Windows 4.0/4.1 = Windows 95

Windows 4.2x.xxxx = Windows 98

Windows 4.3.xxxx = Windows Me.

-----------------------------------------

Who different branches. Windows NT started at 3.x to make it easier to understand the version numbers.

-----------------------------------------

Windows NT 3.x

Windows NT 4.x

Windows NT 5.0 = Windows 2000

Windows NT 5.1 = Windows XP

Windows NT 5.2 = Windows Server 2003

Windows NT 6.0 = Longhorn

not even close...

ME WASNT 2000! and 98 was 4.1 not 5, 2000 was NT 5.0 and XP was 5.1, so Longhorn would be 6.0 if there is major changes added to make it worth a 6.0 version

^Very nice.

I think Longhorn would have been a good name to roll with.

Nah, they never use the codename for a final release. Hense it's a "Codename"
