rusonjitsu
Hey guys, :) Two things; Firstly windows update is showing ALL updates, including sp1!, which is really wierd because I have SP2 (i actually have MCE2005OEM), and i had installed all the latest updates. However now there are all of them listed. I dont know what to do to fix this i think it may be related to my other problem.. ..My other problem is that i show my version of windows on the desktop, at the end of the version there are two boxes in brackets, which is wierd as they werent there before. (see attached screenshot) I hope someone can help me, I only wiped my HD and reinstalled windows a month ago! Im not doing it again. LOL RJ
semifamous
I thought SP2 was build 2160, not 2158... Wasn't it? Or am I just reading that wrong?

John Veteran Posted February 23, 2005 Veteran Share Posted February 23, 2005 2158 is NOT the version! Read this. As for your WU issue, I suggest you remove the WU control by clearing your Downloaded Program Files.
uniacidz
Thats what you should see for XP SP2 As for the desktop showing text, Try tweakui. For Windows Update. Clear the WU Control from Downloaded Program files folder. Delete the Software Distribution folder Clear Temp Net Files and cookies. Remove Windows Update program folder if its there. Remove the Windows Update log file in the C:Windows directory. Reboot and try again.

Also ive just tried to use tweakui and it said i need windows xp sp1 or higher to run.. I DO!!! I tried what you said about windows update, still does it. How can I remove the boxes from my windows version? There must be somewhere in the registry! EDIT: I checked my windows version in the registry, check out the attachment, see if you see anything wrong.. 'obsolete'?!.. HELP! John Veteran Posted February 23, 2005 Veteran Share Posted February 23, 2005 You're missing a registry value there... I suggest you reinstall SP2 (Y) I could simply give you the registry value, but odds are that if it is missing, some other files/registry keys are missing too. Reinstalling SP2 will work. I dont know why its done this! I think something happened with one of the 10 recent updates Microsoft Churned out. Any suggestions anyone? That doesnt involve Reinstalling windows? :p Thanks RJ
John Veteran Posted February 23, 2005 Veteran Share Posted February 23, 2005 Did you try reinstalling SP2? Because I bet that will fix it, and you could have done it by now.
