I have just come across the answer.

Put yourself in the position of the blind man, you have no idea what the hats of the other guys are, but just listen to what they said.

For the answer to make sense, think of yourself as a red hated guy

1) W, R, R

2) W, W, R

3) R, W, R

This three are the only possibilities if the blind guy had a red hat, all the other possibilities make the blind guy a white hat-ed one, this is very important.

Possibility 1 and 3 are not possible since the other guys clearly stated that they couldnt figure out what hats they had on. So they are dismissed.

This only left us with

2) W, W, R

The first guy could have thought "I see red - white/white - white/ white - red so I dont know what I have".

Now the key thing is what the second guy could have thought. " The first guy didnt know, so the blind guy and myself must be red - white /white - white/ white - red. But since I can see that the first guy is white, and the blind guy is red, I cannot be red, I must be white, but the second guy didnt say this, he answered: "I dont know" .

So the blind man is now absolutely sure he is white. By cutting out the chances of he being Red.
