Microsoft Antivirus Implementation

Question

thor777_au

Hi all,

I was pondering Microsofts plan to release antivirus software! (in some form)

And I was thinking how it should be implemented to keep both parties happy (Already established players in the antivirus field, competition watchdogs, and users)

What If they extended their exisitng 'virus removal tool' (the one released where it detects and removes the most virulent virus', and is updated monthly) to include a known list of existing virus' (a whole list or close to it) and let it be updated once a month.

The product would sit in the background (maybe as a service) and scan files automatically.

The product would not scan emails, nor have the option to initiate manual scans. These procedures would be left up to 3rd party antivirus.

Going to work? Not going to work?

Thoughts/sugguestions?

cheers
