"Wireless Zero Configuration" - why the name?

Question

anog

Hi there guys!

Quick question... Why is - or at least was, think it was changed in XP SP2.. - the Wireless service in Windows called "Wireless Zero Configuration"?

Is there any reason behind the "zero" in the service's name?

I'm just curious..

Thanks!

It gives you the illusion that you don't have to configure anything.

And not considering the router, you don't have to configure anything unless the SSID isn't being broadcast. But you always have to set up the router.
