Cant Use iPOD Shuffle On 2 PC's?

Recommended Posts

My gf has an ipod shuffle, and transfers mp3s from her computer onto it. We installed iTunes off the cd onto my pc, and connected the ipod. When I opened iTunes it asked me something about changing the link to the library, and when I clicked yes it had wiped the ipod. Is there any way of being able to transfer songs off both pc's without wiping everything off each time?

From now on, ALL Ipod discussion and/or support threads should be posted in the Personal Media (Hardware) forum. For organizational purposes, it makes no sense to allow posting of the ipod in different forums. The Apple Hardware forum, from now on, shall be used specifically for hardware support/discussion related to Apple computers.

iPods can only be linked to one machine, as far as I know. What you're trying to do may seem like piracy in the eyes of Apple? e.g. I take my iPod to your place, and copy a few music files over, then go home and listen to it?

You should have clicked No to link the iPod to your music library, because it will erase all music on your iPod, then enable you to copy music back onto the iPod - this is worthless when you plug it back into your GF's machine as she will have to re-link the library to the shuffle, and NOT be able to copy the music back (which is stealing music?).

There are alternative ways to get music shared between two machines though.

All you have to do is set your iPod to manually update in the iTunes settings, not automatically.  That will allow you to use it on multiple machines.

That only applies to iPod, iPod Mini and iPod Photo. They DO have the ability of being connected to multiple machines to add music/playback, again in manual mode

Shuffles can only be connected to one computer at a time, there is no method around this, and is not supported in any way shape or form, check apple's website and the documentation that came in box!

The aim is not to move music betweeen my computer and her computer, I could do that just by burning a cdr. The aim is just to let her fill her ipod with songs from both our computers.
